What’s up, Hive? It’s been a minute. I’ve been trying to keep up with the perpetual spiral that is life, doing my best to make sure it doesn’t spin out of control. There have been a lot of big changes and commitments to overcome lately. Several adjustments to my schedule, and that’s been disrupting to my nightly blogging routine. It’s eyeopening to see that I haven’t posted in over a week. How can so much time slip past me so fast?! Hive is where I go to slow down, review my day or my week and reflect, and after today, even at almost 2:00a.m., I’ve decided I need to do that.
I’ve been spending a lot of quality time with @guthrie lately. This has been his first summer break since he started school in 2016. His last school was year round, attending only four days a week. Also, it was directly around the corner from our house. The new charter school he began this week is 25 minutes from our house. There was the possibility that he’d take the city bus, but upon reviewing the route, there are two stops and over an hour of transit time. I wasn’t going to put him through that, especially waiting outside during the Minnesota winters.
This week, I had to get used to the change in routine. The mornings come really early, especially when I’m staying up so late and he needs so much more time to get ready. After school, I took him to Spirit Halloween to start getting our costumes together. There’s a chance I may be in Texas with @lovejoy during the holiday, but I’m going to try to be home so we can go together. I finally allowed him to watch Nightmare on Elm Street, so he got his Freddy costume. He’s pushing for me to be Jason since I have a shaved head.
@ghostfish and I finally finished putting up the beautiful tin ceiling I invested in so many months ago. We did half the ceiling in March, then months passed where I was unable to get the other 50 tiles to finish this renovation. He came over and with some planning, we planned out the final arrangement. I have the ceiling of my dreams now and I absolutely love how it turned out. I’m one step closer to my perfect living room. I have a really special friendship with @ghostfish. We help each other out when we can. No one is keeping score. It’s rare to have that.
Finally, in mushroom news, I’ve been going in to the woods with friends in search of chicken and hen of the woods. I hit the Mississippi River bottoms with my friend Micah and we found a beautiful chicken of the woods at the perfect age! I came across a massive coral tooth fungus that immediately turned in to a red curry. @vermillionfox, @dartstrife and I ventured out together but didn’t find anything edible. I’m now moving on to the next phase of my obsessive personality, which is starting to grow these at home.
