Black hole sun!

What’s up, Hive. 1:00a.m. seems like a risk to start a blog post but I’m a little too awake to crash so this is the winding down process for tonight. I was all over town today dropping off soup to a friend that was fighting a cold, then back to Wayzata to my favorite foraging spot. I found chicken of the woods and coral tooth mushrooms which will be part of my next freewrite. I ended up back at @caffetto which reminded me of the lunar eclipse the other night. I’ve been wanting to share some of these pictures on Hive.

@caffetto, for those of you who don’t know, is something of a historical record of Hive. It’s where I made my introduction post over 10 years ago. For a while, @mada and a few others were onboarding literally dozens of users during the height of Hive’s rise to prominence. @caffetto is a special place. It somehow attracts the outcasts. It’s like the island of misfit toys. Not much activity there these days, at least from a blockchain perspective, but it still serves as a community hub for the eccentric.

One of the stand out characters at @caffetto these days is a guy named Joon. To be honest, I took a @caffetto hiatus for a while. There were some muslim coffee shops that started opening, most with late hours and they lured me away. Once I started coming back, I saw this guy with a pile of huge telephoto lenses on his desk. I remember coyly asking, “…are you a photographer?”, and him completely missing the joke. We started talking and became friends quickly. He’s the antithesis of me as a photographer. I’m extremely minimalist and he has some of the craziest shit I’ve ever seen as far as camera hardware.

All those lenses came in handy the other night, though, when we had a lunar eclipse. A bunch of us went out side to start watching the phenomenon and as we gazed upward, Joon began setting up his tripod. Before long, he was getting these insane stacked photos. He was using terms I’ve never even heard of but you have to hand it to the guy, the shots came out great. I still occasionally shoot but for the most part, I’m over it after a 26 year career. I love seeing how passionate and excited he is, and moreover, grateful that @caffetto still draws in folks like Joon.
