As in my previous about buying a road bike for this event, today I wanna post about this event. For the first time it is being held at night, I'm entering the 78km ride. The is another category, 105km ride but I wasn't ready for it.
Lekas is actually the acronym for Lebuhraya Kajang-Seremban, a 44.3km expressway from Kajang in Selangor to Seremban in Negeri Sembilan linking to the Seremban Inner Ring Road.
This is also the first cycling event that I enter with a road bike so I was kinda excited about this. The ride starts at 2000 so the morning was spent checking my bike and cleaning it, to look better and then some rest.
I move out at 1600 to meet with my friend, Bomoh and Oppo at our agreed meetup point. Its was a Petronas station just before the exit to Kajang on North South Highway south bound. We grab something to eat at the KFC then proceed to the starting point.
We stop to take a leak before heading to the starting point which is just before the Kajang toll plaza. While waiting for the flag off, we have a look around, joke around and do some stretching.
Me and my bike, I do find that I look better in picture from behind
As soon as the ride started, I didn't stop to take any pictures and my Nexus 5 is bad at taking picture in the dark. The whole expressway is brightly lit for this event. Its was really fun to be able to cycle on the expressway without worrying about traffic. There was a climb just before Setul toll plaza which is at the top of Gunung Mantin-Seremban at 258 metres above sea level. The climb is quite a challenge for some but since I have cycle here a few times with my foldie so I do know abit how the condition is like.
After the Setul toll plaza is all the way down so I just relax and go into the most aero position I can, reach the U turn and proceed to the water station. But shit happens as the water station run out of water! Cyclist is arguing with the staff manning the water station. No point arguing so I left as I still have a 500ml bidon left, the other is empty.
Heading towards the Setul toll plaza for the climb back, with similiar climb before this. Once reach the top, I heard someone calling me. I look around and saw another friend of mine, KR as he is known. I rest a while with him then we proceed to head back. To our surprise, there was a pickup truck on the side of the road with a makeshift table distributing water and isotinic drink not far from Setul toll plaza. Lucky for us, we go had our bidon refill and continue with our ride back to the finish line without stopping.
After the finish line, everyone is having their rest
