The moment lips parted from mine, the devastating clarity washed all over me and I finally understood. All those beautiful, fun-filled moments, our effortless vibes, deep convos, late night chats, his little acts of service and kindness. I realised that it wasn't love. Not the certain kind he clearly feels for me.

I know he loves me. I can see it in his eyes, feel it in his touch and I do love him truly. But it is a fond gentle kind of love not the passionate, all-in commitment he deserves as a partner. To stay would be to build a life on a fragile foundation. I would constantly feel the weight of his expectations, knowing very well I could never fully meet them.

Now, here I am seated alone with silence almost engulfing me into the void. How do I find the words to explain to such a beautiful soul? How do I tell him that the greatest act of love I can show him is to let him go, so he can find someone who will love with the same depth as he does.
I can't simply stay because he is a good man, that wouldn't be kindness but a life sentence for us both.
