I finished work early this Sunday and was shopping for a sweet treat to bring back home to enjoy as part of my weekly carb-up. I was so happy to discover that a Blue Star Donut shop had opened nearby, so I navigated my way to it and was pleasant to find parking right out front. The place is bright and open, and displays the available donuts behind a small glass case. They also serve hot and cold brewed coffee.

There is a small area behind the counter where I saw them prepare some of the fresh donuts. It was tricky to choose which ones to bring home, because they all looked so delicious. I ended up choosing the cream filled ones, and one cake based one. I definitely will be back to try out the rest of their different unique flavors because these were epic.
Each donut was so unique in flavor and texture, I haven't been a fan of donuts before these!
no, they are not ketogenic
"But I thought you can't have carbs when you are in keto"
I did not have carbs for the initial six months of eating strictly ketogenic, that is because I needed to go through a keto adaptation time to allow the new cells born in the body to be born into an environment where fat is metabolized as the primary source of energy. After the initial six months, I can, and women especially should, do frequent carb-ups to refuel essential glycogen storages and maintain hormonal balances. The good news now is that my insulin sensitivity is improved, I can consume large amounts of carbohydrates without crashing afterwards or putting on a massive amount of body fat. My body just knows what to do with the carbs, and I have super charged workouts!
Prior to becoming ketoadapted, I had a sugar addiction where my mind was consumed by the thought of binging on massive amounts of sugar and carbohydrates. Now, I can enjoy it whenever I choose, and can go on days and weeks without even thinking about it; when I see pastries and carbs in front of me, my mind does not have a strong pull towards them anymore. I am grateful for that sense of freedom!
