Rice is now a staple food that is being consumed almost daily in every home in Nigeria.
However, due to nutritional ignorance, majority of our people depend wholly on Foreign Polished Rice which is dangerous to our health because it is TOXIC and it causes numerous diseases.
Naturally speaking, rice is supposed to be a whole grain that must have RICE BRAN(the seed coat) and RICE GERM(the embryo) covering the inner starch of each rice grain.
The rice bran and the rice germ are the most nutritious parts of the whole rice grain because they are rich in VITAMINS, MINERALS, AMINO ACIDS, VITAL FATTY ACIDS, DIETARY FIBER and ANTIOXIDANTS that help to protect the CELLS of the body from being damaged by free radicals.
The rice bran even contains the RICE BRAN OIL which has antioxidant properties that promote a HEALTHY HEART and an OPTIMAL BLOOD CIRCULATORY SYSTEM.
Unfortunately, the foreign polished rice which most Nigerians consume is highly refined, polished and stripped of its rice bran and rice germ. That is, the beneficial nutrients are completely, Cancers, etc.
Thus, foreign polished rice is at best a SLOW POISON.
Apart from removing the bran and the germ of foreign polished rice, the rice is stored in the silos for so long and preserved with HARMFUL CHEMICAL PRESERVATIVES before being brought to us, so that the rice grains do not turn rancid and spoil. Otherwise, the rice grains would not last long in the silos and on the shelves.
It is a pity that this is what majority of our people ignorantly consume, thereby digging their untimely graves day by day with their spoons loaded with toxic foreign polished rice and they end up living to eat rather than eating to live.
As a young Biologist, I hereby advice you in your own interest to look for and buy LOCAL RICE WITHOUT STONES for your GOOD HEALTH, such as OUR LOCAL RICE presently being sold locally.
Local rice is mildly refined and has its bran and germ intact without any chemical preservatives.
Furthermore, the price of local rice is lower than that of foreign polished rice despite the high cost of production that the few farmers producing local rice are still experiencing, yet it is better for health reasons.
Besides, there is the need to encourage our rice farmers and give our foreign exchange a boost.
Billions of US Dollars are being wasted annually on the importation of the SLOW POISON that we ignorantly call food.
Let he that has ears hear and change his lifestyle.
