This town of mine is like a breviary, yes,
an endless sequence of hymns, psalms, and stories,
which I read and write at the same time,
without allowing myself a pause and without finding peace...

Este pueblo mío es como un breviario sí,
una secuencia interminables de himnos, salmos e historias,
las cuales voy leyendo y escribiendo a un mismo tiempo,
sin permitirme pausa y sin encontrar sosiego...

This town is its relics and its heroes,
its truths and its fables brazenly displayed in its streets,
and my shameless gaze stripping all of its normality,
with this almost incurable vice of impertinent recording...

Este pueblo son sus reliquias y sus próceres,
sus verdades y sus fábulas con descaro explayadas en sus calles,
y mi mirada impúdica desnudando de normalidad todo aquello,
con este casi vicio incurable del registro impertinente...

I myself am my memories, and they taught me to see,
and I rummage, and I slip between the covers of forgotten books,
popping my nose into other people's houses brimming with the past,
stealing their saints, their symbols, even their faces...

Yo mismo soy mis memorias y ellas me enseñaron a mirar,
y hurgo, y me deslizo entra las tapas de libros olvidados,
metiendo mis narices en las casas ajenas repletas de pasado,
robándome sus santos, sus signos, hasta sus rostros...

I have come without asking permission or giving notice,
I know from experience that I will leave the same way,
without leaving even a trace of absence,
but having taken what I could from these streets,
and stolen a certain charm from the old corners,
whose essence may perhaps go a little with me too...

He venido sin pedir permiso ni avisar,
sé por experiencia que me iré de igual manera,
sin dejar siquiera un atisbo de ausencia,
pero habiendo tomado lo que pude de estas calles,
y robado cierto hechizo delos rincones viejos,
cuya esencia quizás se irá un poco también conmigo...

And I will look at the last page,
and close the little book,
surely without nostalgia or longing,
because I left having drunk all my memories...

Y miraré la ultima pagina,
y cerraré el pequeño libro,
seguramente sin nostalgia ni añoranza,
porque me fui habiéndome bebido todas mis memorias...
