What would my dad think of me today if he were still alive? I still remember the first time he invited me to try beer; I didn't like the taste at all, and he laughed a lot at my wrinkled face. Even so, he tried to drink with me many times, but nothing doing, beer and alcohol in general and I never became friends in my early adulthood. Now that I'm older (37), it's normal for me to have at least a couple of drinks with my friends, my wife, or, as in the case I'm telling you about today, with my mom, toasting to him and his love and eternal legacy in us.
Exactly two and a half years have passed. The pain is still very, very intense, but somehow today we can talk about what happened with more serenity. In my particular case, I have vented a lot with my wife, who has been my companion in tears, but when I am with my brother, and especially with my mother, I try not to bring up the subject of agony and death. With a delicious cold lager, I broke this personal stigma and we talked about Dad, both the good days and the worst moments, and honestly it was very liberating, besides the fact that his departure has uncovered endless situations that we never imagined could exist, or that could happen to us.
Yes, many things have healed, and others have marked us for life, but we can definitely talk, vent, cry, and even toast to Dad, because he has been freed from human pain, and we know and understand that he is at peace today. That feeling that a piece of our soul was torn away will remain here inside us, and we share it between my brother, my mom, and me, but as we all know, life goes on, as if nothing had happened... There is still a long way to go, but we are heroes; we survived the world's indifference to our pain, and day by day we continue to work and make our lives count.
It should be noted that I also broke my diet that day. It wasn't my fault, I just wanted to have a couple of beers, but the place is called Caracas Burguer, so God definitely wanted me to eat at least one delicious burger 鉂わ笍 But it was with the greatest pleasure in the world. I spend my days with my wife, so when I have the opportunity to spend time with my mom, I try to enjoy it as much as possible. In fact, we haven't seen each other very often this year, and sometimes we have so many stories to tell each other that it takes forever. But that's okay. Going out with her to a place as beautiful as this and treating her to something delicious is what my dad would have done, and it's another way to honor him and her. How nice it is to come home! Even though I don't like this city very much, it doesn't matter. My people are here, and everything that represents my first 25 years of life. So I also toast to moments like this happening again 馃
