A walk that brought a surprise [Esp-Eng]

This Wednesday’s walk allowed me to meet a very special little friend who, honestly, brightened up my hour, my afternoon, my day, and my life. But let’s take it one step at a time. The plan for the day was to go to the mall because I needed to buy something. Usually, the trip is a bit boring from my perspective, but this time we had to take a different route because the bus went a different way.

This meant I had to walk a little further. Of course, I took the opportunity to enjoy this longer walk. Basically, we arrived at the back of the mall, and although at first glance you might think it’s a desolate place, the truth is that it has a pretty peaceful atmosphere. Plus, since the space is open and there aren’t any tall buildings around, you get to see the sky in a different way.

La caminata de este miércoles me permitió conocer a un amiguito demasiado especial que, honestamente, alegró mi hora, mi tarde, mi día y mi vida. Pero vamos por partes. Este día el plan era ir al centro comercial porque necesitaba comprar algo. Por lo general, el trayecto es un poco aburrido desde mi punto de vista, pero esta vez tuvimos que tomar una ruta diferente debido a que el autobús se metió por otro sitio.

Esto significó que tuve que caminar un poco más. Por supuesto, aproveché el momento para disfrutar de este trayecto largo. Básicamente, llegamos por la parte de atrás del centro comercial y, aunque a primera vista se podría pensar que es un lugar desolado, la verdad es que se siente un ambiente bastante tranquilo. Además, como el espacio es amplio y no hay edificios altos alrededor, tienes la posibilidad de observar el cielo de una manera distinta.

So the whole way there, I couldn’t stop looking up. The sky was pretty clear, and the shade of blue was so beautiful that it really blew me away. It’s so true that, no matter where we look, we can find something lovely to appreciate. You might think otherwise, since there’s a lot of asphalt along this road, but you can also spot some small trees and flowers.

And now I’ll tell you about my favorite part. Just as we were entering the mall, we came across something really strange to me. There was a kind of odd hole in the ground, especially since we’d already passed by there before and it wasn’t there. I immediately thought it was a snake’s den or something like that. However, it turned out to be something else. Since I’m curious, I walked up to the hole, and out of nowhere, a bird appeared, ready to defend its territory.

Así que durante todo el trayecto no podía dejar de mirar hacia arriba. El cielo estaba bastante despejado y con un tono de azul tan bonito que me impresionó demasiado. Es muy cierto eso de que, en cualquier parte que miremos, podemos conseguir algo lindo para apreciar. Uno podría pensar que no, porque en esta vía hay bastante asfalto, pero también se consiguen algunos árboles pequeños y flores.

Y ahora vengo con la que fue mi parte favorita. Casi entrando al centro comercial, encontramos algo súper extraño para mí. Había una especie de agujero en el suelo bastante raro, sobre todo porque ya habíamos pasado antes por allí y no estaba. Inmediatamente pensé que era la casa de una serpiente o algo así. Sin embargo, se trataba de algo más. Como soy curiosa, me acerqué al agujero y, de la nada, apareció un ave lista para defender su territorio.

I had never seen a bird like this in my life—not because of its appearance, but because of its behavior and demeanor. From its shape, I figured it was an owl, but why was it coming out from under the ground and hiding in a hole? It was quite a unique experience, mainly because I love animals and seeing them always makes me happy. Beyond that, it was incredibly fascinating to watch it emerge from the ground, since I had never seen a bird do something like that before.

The walk was already pleasant because I had been consciously observing the beautiful things around me, but it ended up being super special after meeting this cute little owl friend. After doing some research, I learned that it’s a burrowing owl, and I loved meeting it in person, in a place as unexpected as the outskirts of a shopping mall.

Nunca en mi vida había visto un ave como esta, no por su apariencia sino por su actitud y aptitud. Por su forma, deduje que se trataba de un búho o una lechuza, pero ¿por qué salía de debajo de la tierra y estaba metido en un agujero? Fue algo bastante único, principalmente porque amo a los animales y verlos siempre me alegra. Más allá de eso, resultó sumamente curioso observarlo salir del suelo, ya que jamás había visto a un ave hacer algo así.

La caminata ya estaba siendo agradable debido a que venía observando conscientemente las cosas bonitas a mi alrededor, pero terminó siendo súper especial al conocer a este lindo amiguito búho. Luego de investigar, supe que se trata de un búho de madriguera y me encantó haberlo conocido en persona, en un lugar tan inesperado como las afueras de un centro comercial.
