They bring good memories, welcome everyone to the present through those scents, my roots! from my beloved maternal grandmother's bread cake.

In Venezuela the bread that we have left from the previous day does not boot is grated to breading some foods or to make the bread cake. My grandmother's bread cake, is mixed in a blender, with the bread soaked in milk, with all the ingredients in the hands and laughter in the kitchen.

Making the bread cake with my grandmother since I was a child and with the youngest, my six (6) younger siblings, brings back sweet and loving memories, because those moments were much more than preparing the cake for dessert after the family meal, it was a space to be present, around the family table, together, pray before eating, and taste that sweet-toothed piece of a golden and caramelized cake on the outside and soft on the inside... Yummmm.

This question of this edition, even in the midst of difficult days and news that sometimes neither children nor adults manage to understand, sitting around this Creole delight with the smell and taste of my childhood, breaks the monotony, and helps me clear my mind in a healthy way.

Where is this way of making this delicacy born, in my home?

My maternal grandmother Margarita, when she had bread left over from the day before, she would say: today I make bread cake, this dessert evokes my childhood, its texture is soft and dense like a pudding inside.

Here I leave you my recipe:

Ingredients:

3 cups (750 ml) of liquid milk, 400 g of tap bread or French bread (or 2 tap breads) in pieces, preferably from the previous day, 4 eggs, 1 can of condensed milk (370 g), 1 cup (200 g) of sugar, 1/2 cup of raisins (to taste), I have put 1 cup of a mixture of black raisins soaked in 2 tablespoons of rum half an hour before making the cake, 1/4 cup (60-65g) oil or butter melted (or a mixture of both) and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.

For the caramel: 1 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup of water.

I cook it in a caramel mold and in a double boiler for an hour. Top it off with a generous layer of caramel. Cooking this delicious bread cake together as a family on weekends turns a simple dessert into a perfect pretext to connect, strengthen the bond between parents, children or siblings, and give us a childhood full of real and shared memories.

Today the bread cake is the pretext, but the real main ingredient is the quality time we dedicate to making it. Now yes, enjoy this dessert...! ❤️

Happy week to everyone.
