I am very worried about all the manifestations of violence that I see happening in our country, people fight without any modesty, for the most sterile or trivial reasons; in traffic, on the street, on a sports field, for sentimental issues, for viral challenges ... it is part of the violence that we often ignore.
The violence passes before our eyes without us stopping to reflect on its magnitude. Far from generating astonishment or discomfort, people take out their phones to record and make viral contents that are really embarrassing, but besides that, they end up being the symptom of a sick society.
Learning to see people by their behavior and not by their origin or appearance, is just and necessary. For example, we Venezuelans have experienced firsthand how hard it is for someone to believe that because they met a Venezuelan, they know everyone... I know that the first thing we think about when talking about this topic is xenophobia, but there is more and more everyday; the generalization that has been made with us Hispanics as a mechanism that allows us to take a particular experience and apply it in broader contexts. It is like having an adaptive reason, but it does not mean that it is free of errors or its effects are always positive. I think part of the problem comes from us investing what the person does with who the person is.
And this is very important. When someone drives, drives badly, far from thinking that person drives badly, we often attribute it to another characteristic that has to do with what the person is: his gender, race or any other condition that usually cannot be changed.
That it bothers us how someone acts is valid, but to think that it has to do with that, that the person is not only wrong, but dangerous... Please let's not overdo it either and put everyone in a sack. People who drive badly, who act inappropriately there are of all races, religions and genders, around the world.
Sometimes we are so busy fulfilling, solving and accompanying others that we leave for later what we want for ourselves. And when it comes to deciding, it is difficult to distinguish between our desires, fear, guilt and the expectations of others.
The problem is not who we are. Many times the circumstances of everything we have lived through, the hardships we have gone through, and the limited solution options lead to tension being felt in the air today... And if we don't stop we can cross very dangerous thresholds... What do you guys think? How do you see the current situation? I'm interested in reading You.
