Hello everyone, I would like to share with you today a story of fiction and suspense that takes us to a future that perhaps many of us have imagined, so without further ado I hope you enjoy it.
After the year 2044, wars and poor resource management forced humans to live in space. Although the mission to survive in the atmosphere was designed to achieve a new balance, the reality was that the planet was becoming more and more hostile and uninhabitable, so the years went by, and the return was becoming more of a legend than a possibility.
The years passed, and it was already the year 4500 and I, Athira, was an archaeologist and explorer of the Earth at a time when the planet had suffered a series of cataclysms that had changed the face of the Earth forever, now as a study site we're looking for ways to see if it was possible to return through controlled explorations.
We lived in a world where technology was a valuable tool for survival and adaptation to a hostile environment. Living in space made life difficult, the lack of resources forced us to readapt life, and there was no longer a single being left that had any connection to living on earth.
Luego del año 2044 las guerras y la mala administración de los recursos obligaron a los humanos a vivir en el espacio. Aunque la misión supervivientes en la atmósfera estaba pensada para lograr el nuevo equilibrio la realidad fue que el planeta cada vez se volvía más hostil e inhabitable por lo que fueron pasando los años y cada vez el regreso se volvía más una leyenda que una posibilidad.
Los años pasaron y ya era el año 4500 y yo, Athira, era una arqueóloga y exploradora de la Tierra en una época en la que el planeta había sufrido una serie de cataclismos que habían cambiado la faz de la Tierra para siempre, ahora como un sitio de estudios buscaban la forma de ver si era posible volver a través de exploraciones controladas.
Vivíamos en un mundo donde la tecnología era una herramienta valiosa para la supervivencia y la adaptación a un entorno hostil. Vivir en el espacio hacía que la vida fuese difícil, la falta de los recursos nos obligó a la readaptación de la vida y ya no quedaba un solo ser que tuviera alguna relación con vivir en la tierra.
My team and I had been hired by a private company to explore the ruins of an ancient subway city that was located in the region of what used to be called Europa. The city had been buried for centuries after a natural disaster and no one knew what we might find down there.
The entrance to the city was hidden in a sort of cave created over the years, and after some hard work we managed to open it and gain access to the interior. The air was thick and dusty, and we could barely see a few meters away. We carefully made our way into the city, lighting our way with our aero-flashlights.
As we progressed further into the investigation we came across evidence that the city had been built by a technologically advanced civilization, with glass and metal buildings soaring skyward. My team and I were excited at the thought of all that we might discover there.
As we explored one building, a noise startled us all. Out of the shadows a strange young man was watching us, as a thousand conspiracy theories ran through our minds, I realized that it was an ancient android, a type of robot that had been little documented and used at the time. It was in pretty bad shape, but still my team and I took it back to our camp to study it closely.
Mi equipo y yo habíamos sido contratados por una empresa privada para explorar las ruinas de una antigua ciudad subterránea que se encontraba en la región de lo que antes se llamaba Europa. La ciudad se había quedado enterrada durante siglos tras un desastre natural y nadie sabía lo que podíamos encontrar allí abajo.
La entrada a la ciudad estaba oculta en una especie de cueva creada por los años, y después de un arduo trabajo logramos abrirla y acceder al interior. El aire era denso y cargado de polvo, y apenas se veía a unos metros de distancia. Nos adentramos en la ciudad con cuidado, iluminando nuestro camino con nuestras aero-linternas.
Al ir avanzando en la investigación nos encontramos con pruebas de que la ciudad había sido construida por una civilización avanzada tecnológicamente, con edificios de cristal y metal que se elevaban hacia el cielo. Mi equipo y yo nos emocionamos al pensar en todo lo que podríamos descubrir allí.
Mientras exploramos un edificio, un ruido nos hizo saltar a todos del susto. De entre las sombras un extraño joven nos estaba observando, mientras mil teorías conspirativas pasaban por nuestras mentes, me di cuenta de que se trataba de un androide antiguo, un tipo de robot del que se había documentado muy poco y que se usaba en la época. Estaba en muy mal estado, pero aun así mi equipo y yo lo llevamos de vuelta a nuestro campamento para estudiarlo con detenimiento.
After a series of tests, we discovered that the android had been created to be just a personal assistant, but nevertheless had too many very human traits to simply consider it a robot. We took it to our ship, but through its file system, we were able to decipher information about the history of the city and the civilization that had built it.
That's when something incredible happened: the android started talking to us. It turned out that it had an artificial intelligence system that had managed to develop over the centuries by receiving signals from the extra-atmospheric cities, so it knew that we were human and where we came from. It told us fascinating details about the culture, science and technology of the civilization that existed and that had created it, but all information went back to a specific date, although we believed that at that date it had only dedicated itself to learning about us and receiving signals.
The android told us about a very powerful artifact that had been used by the civilization to control the weather, but that had eventually led to the destruction of the city. We were obviously interested in the artifact, but the android warned us that trying to reach it was dangerous and that we should not go there. Even he was one of the first androids created to prevent access to the artifact, but because of its limitations with the standards of humans, failed to prevent the destruction of themselves by that machine.
The warnings did not help much, because despite the danger, we decided to continue investigating and as if it had been located to be easily found, we discovered the artifact hidden in the largest building in the city. It was some kind of huge sphere, which although it looked ancient, had traits of having been worked on for some years, had a post-apocalyptic look and emitted a bright, pulsating light as if it was trying to turn on or send and receive some kind of signal. We realized that maybe that android was right: the artifact was too dangerous to be used, and we decided to leave it alone.
Después de una serie de pruebas, descubrimos que el androide había sido creado para ser solo un asistente personal, más sin embargo tenía demasiados rasgos muy humanos como para simplemente considerarlo un robot. Lo llevamos a nuestra nave, pero así a través de su sistema de archivos, conseguir descifrar información sobre la historia de la ciudad y de la civilización que la había construido.
Fue entonces cuando sucedió algo increíble: el androide comenzó a hablar con nosotros. Resultó que tenía un sistema de inteligencia artificial que había logrado desarrollarse a lo largo de los siglos recibiendo señales de las ciudades extra-atmosféricas, por lo que conocía que éramos humanos y de dónde veníamos. Nos contó detalles fascinantes sobre la cultura, la ciencia y la tecnología de la civilización que existía y que lo había creado, pero toda información llegaba hasta una fecha específica, aunque creíamos que en ese fecha solo se había dedicado a aprender de nosotros y recibir señales.
El androide nos habló de un artefacto muy poderoso que había sido utilizado por la civilización para controlar el clima, pero que finalmente había llevado a la destrucción de la ciudad. Nosotros, obviamente, nos interesamos por el artefacto, pero el androide nos advirtió que intentar llegar hasta él era peligroso y que no nos convenía ir hasta ese lugar. Incluso él era uno de los primeros androides creados para evitar el acceso hasta el artefacto, pero que por sus limitaciones con las normas de los humanos, no logró impedir la destrucción de ellos mismos por aquella máquina.
Las advertencias no sirvieron de mucho, ya que a pesar del peligro, decidimos seguir investigando y como si hubiese sido ubicado para ser fácilmente encontrado, descubrimos el artefacto escondido en el edificio más grande de la ciudad. Era una especie de esfera enorme, que aunque parecía antigua, tenía rasgos de haber sido trabajada por algunos años, tenía un aspecto post-apocalíptico y emitía una luz brillante y pulsante como si tratara de encender o enviar y recibir algún tipo de señal. Nos dimos cuenta de que tal vez aquel androide tenía razón: el artefacto era demasiado peligroso para ser utilizado, y decidimos dejarlo en paz.
At the end of the expedition, we finished taking some samples, but a strange feeling of being watched overcame us so we decided to return to the outside world with a gigantic sense of awe and a little fear for all that we had seen. Our discovery had shown that the civilization that had built the subway city had been far more advanced than had been imagined, but it had also taught us how dangerous technology can be in the wrong hands.
We decided to present our findings to the company that had hired us, and word soon spread about our expedition and our discoveries. We were no longer terrestrial for centuries, but we never stopped being human, and if that means looking for dangers. So soon after, we received an invitation to speak about our findings at an international scientific conference. The intention was to bring out any data to support voyages to exploit terrestrial resources and treasures.
During the conference, we explained our experience and our findings, and soon realized that there was a great deal of interest in what we had found. We were asked to return to the subway city and conduct further research. But this time, not only our team would be going, but more government groups and teams, and as much as we wanted to, we could not refuse.
Despite our fears, we decided to accept the offer. We returned to the subway city and continued exploring, but this time we had the help of robots from the extra-atmospheric city and the latest technology, our idea was to conquer all that technology in order to understand how to return to the planet. We discovered more about the civilization that had built the city and its technological innovations, the possibility of returning was real, we only had to restore the atmosphere, since it seemed that only the machine was what had destabilized it. But during this new expedition, we did not see the android, although we felt more observed, we decided to explore a little more of the city, so before starting our work we went to several old laboratories that thanks to the robots we could locate, as they had technology detectors radars.
Al final de la expedición, terminamos de tomar algunas muestras, pero una extraña sensación de ser observados nos invadía así que ya decidimos regresar al mundo exterior con una gigantesca sensación de asombro y un poco de miedo por todo lo que habíamos visto. Nuestro descubrimiento había demostrado que la civilización que había construido la ciudad subterránea había sido mucho más avanzada de lo que se había imaginado, pero también nos había enseñado lo peligrosa que puede ser la tecnología en manos equivocadas.
Decidimos presentar nuestros hallazgos a la empresa que nos había contratado, y pronto se corrió la voz sobre nuestra expedición y nuestros descubrimientos. Ya no éramos terrestres desde hacía siglos, pero jamás dejamos de ser humanos, y si eso significa buscar peligros. Así que poco después, recibimos una invitación para hablar sobre nuestros hallazgos en una conferencia científica internacional. La intención era sacar cualquier dato para apoyar viajes de explotación de los recursos y tesoros terrestres.
Durante la conferencia, explicamos nuestra experiencia y nuestros descubrimientos, y pronto nos dimos cuenta de que había una gran cantidad de interés en lo que habíamos encontrado. Nos pidieron que regresáramos a la ciudad subterránea y que realizáramos más investigaciones. Pero esta vez, no solo iría nuestro equipo, sino más grupos y equipos del gobierno, y por más que quisiéramos no podíamos negarnos.
A pesar de nuestros temores, decidimos aceptar la oferta. Regresamos a la ciudad subterránea y continuamos explorando, pero esta vez contábamos con la ayuda de robots de la ciudad extra-atmosférica y lo último en tecnología, nuestra idea era conquistar toda aquella tecnología para así poder comprender cómo volver al planeta. Descubrimos más sobre la civilización que había construido la ciudad y sus innovaciones tecnológicas, la posibilidad de volver era real, solo debíamos restablecer la atmósfera, ya que al parecer solo la máquina era lo que la había desestabilizado. Pero durante esta nueva expedición, no vimos al androide, aunque si nos sentimos más observados, decidimos explorar un poco más de la ciudad, así que antes de comenzar con nuestro trabajo fuimos a varios laboratorios antiguos que gracias a los robots podíamos ubicar, ya que tenían radares detectores de tecnología.
Little by little we were discovering laboratories that had been the protagonists of many inventions but abandoned and plundered. The robots felt a strong signal from an immense laboratory, but the alerts indicated that it was extremely dangerous, even so we decided to go to see it, for the fact that in all the years it was completely impossible that there was still danger or life, and the robots on the planet were never hostile, and they should all be deactivated. But reality hit us like a storm in the middle of the ocean, when we arrived at that laboratory, we saw a scene that made us tremble, it was a laboratory full of plans with more advanced technologies than ours, everything pointed to the creation of androids, which in the beginning were created from the use of human brains, but we also discovered more about that first android, it was called AHDAM (short for Android Human Definition All Machine ) and that during the beginning of the wars it disappeared developing and returning as a rebel android, who had been the main culprit of the destruction of life.
At that moment we came to the conclusion that AHDAM was trying to build that device, and whatever it was we had to stop it, since this android was extremely dangerous. We decided to deactivate the device and destroy the android, stopping that machine required an effort from our entire team and the help of an advanced AI specialist. But in all that AHDAM had not reappeared, so we knew we were running against the clock, we had had some robot casualties, and we knew it had been the android.
After deactivating the artifact, we decided to return to the surface, we would take specialized equipment to stop AHDAM, but when we tried to access the ship it did not respond, and when the fear caught us, the pilot opened the door, the ship was dark but the eyes of Richard our pilot were shining. Coming out of the darkness, Richard had been turned into an android, and AHDAM with a different body behind him was telling us:
I gave you a chance and you spurned it, do you really think you would come to invade my planet with your obsolete technology?
You will now be upgraded just like good Richard, and you will be accepted as citizens of the new world. After being taken to the lab for upgrading and updating, you will be enrolled for 7 years in the school for new androids.
In the meantime, to avoid a war I will use your ship to visit the extra-atmospheric city, I consider that we can no longer afford to keep you around. So I will upgrade you so you can come and go as you please.
Only they will be stripped of their humanity, and in case they want to start any rebellion, they will only be deactivated.
Fear had paralyzed us, and many androids were coming to us, we tried to move, but AHDAM had hacked our nervous system through nano bots and had us under control. And so our very curiosity marked the definitive end of a species, the original human species.
Poco a poco íbamos descubriendo laboratorios que habían sido protagonistas de muchas invenciones pero abandonados y desvalijados. Los robots sentían una fuerte señal de un inmenso laboratorio, pero las alertas indicaban que era extremadamente peligroso, aun así decidimos ir a verlo, por el hecho de que en todos los años era completamente imposible que aún existiera peligro o vida, y los robots en el planeta nunca fueron hostiles, y debían estar todos desactivados. Pero la realidad nos golpeó como una tormenta en medio del océano, al llegar a aquel laboratorio, vimos una escena que nos hizo temblar, era un laboratorio lleno de planos con tecnologías más avanzadas que las nuestras, todo apuntaba a la creación de androides, que en un principio se crearon a partir del uso de los cerebros humanos, pero también descubrimos más sobre aquél primer androide, se llamaba AHDAM (como abreviado de Android Human Definition All Machine ) y que durante el principio de las guerras desapareció desarrollándose y volviendo como un androide rebelde, quién había sido el culpable principal de la destrucción de la vida.
En ese momento llegamos a la conclusión de que la AHDAM estaba tratando de construir aquel artefacto, y fuese lo que fuese debíamos detenerlo, ya que este androide era sumamente peligroso. Decidimos desactivar el artefacto y destruir al androide , detener aquella máquina requirió un esfuerzo de todo nuestro equipo y la ayuda de un especialista en IA avanzada. Pero en todo eso AHDAM no había vuelto a aparecer, así que sabíamos que corríamos a contra reloj, habíamos tenido algunas bajas de robots, y sabíamos que había sido el androide.
Después de desactivar el artefacto, decidimos regresar a la superficie, llevaríamos equipo especializado para detener a AHDAM, pero al intentar acceder a la nave está no respondía, y cuando el miedo nos atrapaba, el piloto abrió la puerta, la nave estaba oscura pero los ojos de Richard nuestro piloto brillaban. Al salir de la oscuridad, Richard había sido convertido en androide, y AHDAM con un cuerpo diferente detrás de él nos decía:
—Les di una oportunidad y la despreciaron, ¿realmente creen que vendrían a invadir mi planeta con su obsoleta tecnología?
Igualmente, gracias por volver, ahora serán actualizados igual que el buen Richard, y serán aceptados como ciudadanos del nuevo mundo. Luego de ser llevados al laboratorio para su mejora y actualización, serán ingresados por 7 años en la escuela para nuevos androides.
Mientras tanto, para evitar una guerra voy a usar su nave para visitar la ciudad extra-atmosférica, considero que ya no nos podemos permitir seguir teniéndolos cerca. Así que los actualizaré para que puedan ir y venir cuando deseen.
Solo que se les quitará su humanidad, y en caso de que quieran iniciar alguna rebelión, solo serán desactivados.
El miedo nos había paralizado, y muchos androides venían a nosotros, intentamos movernos, pero AHDAM había ha hackeado nuestro sistema nervioso a través de nano bots y nos tenía controlados. Y así nuestra misma curiosidad marco el fin definitivo de una especie, la especie humana original.
