Hello everyone and ASEAN Hive Community, how are you today? many exciting and sad events are happening in the world and my country, Indonesia. Several events have occurred, such as the increasing number of cases of covid-19 (omricon variant) in the world, and even some English Premier League matches have been postponed due to the covid-19 outbreak. For ASEAN, this December we will be entertained with a football match, namely the AFF Cup (Football Championship between countries in Southeast Asia, formerly the Tiger Cup). In Indonesia, this morning we were shocked by the 7.5 SR earthquake that hit Larantuka, East Nusa Tenggara and every day we are shocked by the news of endless cases of sexual harassment.

Unusual Dish
This week I also had a unique experience, I got a special food experience that I might never get again or find it difficult to repeat, namely the experience of tasting food which in my opinion is quite extreme.

What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you see this photo? looks creepy, weird or disgusting? If you're confused, this is goat's head curry. Curry is a food or soup dish that has a strong aroma, very delicious taste and authentic taste. Usually, curries are made using spices that have a spicy taste and use meat (such as chicken, mutton, or beef). The curry is thought to have originated in India but I have personally tried the Japanese curry rice dish and the texture and taste is very different. Indonesian Curry is more similar and identical to curry from India, but there are still differences because of the spices and ingredients used.

How about goat head curry? if you've been to Indonesia (or maybe other countries). You definitely won't be surprised or surprised to see a food menu or dish that uses specific animal body members, such as cow skin crackers, beef oxtail soup, goat leg soup, lung soup, tongue satay etc. Why did it happen ? Are we as humans and a nation too greedy because we eat all parts of the animal's body except the feces.

I found some of the answers, when I studied this in college. I am a former student from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry. According to my lecturer, the habit of consuming non-meat animal products such as heads, offal, or tails is a culinary heritage from past cultures (especially old cultures, such as China, India, the Middle East (Mesopotamia) or Rome). The reason, most likely it is because to make maximum use of food sources, either for economic reasons (such as the price of meat is too expensive) or cultural reasons (not to waste food or waste it).

Spesial Goat’s Head Curry

I got this special dish during a birthday celebration for my little sister's child. Initially at the event location, I ate goat curry with rice as usual. When we went home, we were given gifts of food to eat at home. I didn't think we were given curry with a whole goat's head.

I ate this dish alone, at first I took my wife to eat together. However, he refused because he felt the shape of this food was scary, maybe my wife didn't know if this food was very good. For as long as I can remember, this is the third time I've eaten goat's head.

In my opinion, the goat's head is very suitable to be cooked with this method using a lot of spices and cooked for a rather long time. As a result, the curry seasoning permeates all parts and makes the fishy impression disappear.

The odd part about this dish but it tastes great is when you eat the brain. It looks a little ridiculous (or disgusting) but when it enters the mouth and begins to be felt by the tongue, the texture is soft and melts in the mouth, the curry spices absorb well and make this part easier to eat.

The tongue is also very good to eat, this part feels very soft. My favorite part is the cheeks, because here all the tender mutton can be eaten to your heart's content. In addition, the curry spice composition permeates perfectly into all corners of the meat. The part I can't eat is the eye, because I think it's too watery.

There is a myth circulating in Indonesian society about goat's head, namely stories about consuming this dish is considered to increase male vitality. I think there needs to be medical evidence and scientific evidence for this, but how do I get research respondents? Okay, I apologize if some of the photos and display of the food look creepy or disgusting. In addition, I also apologize for friends who are vegan or vegetarian. And do you have food like this in your country?
