Art in Two Tones
Sometimes we’re used to viewing the world through a predefined color palette; full color has become part of our modern identity, and it’s truly incredible, but occasionally we need to return to our roots to discover nuances that are imperceptible at first glance. That’s when, as we delve into the world of chiaroscuro, we can uncover details that didn’t exist before—strokes that are now clearer, firmer, and more visible.

A veces estamos acostumbrados a observar al mundo con los tonos preestablecidos; el full color se ha vuelto parte de nuestra esencia actual y realmente es increíble, pero en ocasiones hace falta volver a las raíces para esta forma descubrir matices que a simple vista son imperceptibles y es así cuando al adentrarnos en el mundo del claroscuro podemos descubrir detalles que antes no existían, trazos que ahora son más claros, más firmes y más visibles.

Exploring the heritage art within Caracas’s University City is an incredible experience, and from the very first moment, it teaches us that nothing should be altered; everything must retain the essence of a whole designed to shine, but the art of Legee, Navarro, or Vasarely—I believe—was not conceived to project a single identity; rather, it is there to be observed from the perspective of each viewer’s individuality. It is there to be enjoyed and captured with a keen, artistic eye—respecting its originality and authorship, yet making it one’s own and experiencing it from within the work itself.
Recorrer el arte patrimonial dentro de la Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas es una experiencia increíble y desde el primer momento nos enseña que nada debe ser alterado; todo debe estar con la esencia de un conjunto pensado para brillar, pero el arte de Legee, Navarro o Vasarely, creo que no fue concebido para proyectar una sola identidad, sino que está allí para ser observado desde el punto de vista de las individualidades de cada espectador, está allí para ser disfrutado y para ser capturado con una mirada aguda y de sentido artístico, respetando sí su originalidad, su autoría, pero haciendo la propia y viviendo desde el interior de la obra.
That is why I decided to remove the colors—which are overwhelming and magnificent—but this time I want to focus solely on the light and shadows, so that I can engage with the work from a different perspective, observing it from the reality of the present, yet from an angle that perhaps points toward the past. This is how we discover that beauty also exists in “Solo dos tonos”—the forms harmonize, the lines come together, and good taste is evident.
Es así como decidí borrarle los colores, cuáles son apabullantes y magníficos, pero en esta oportunidad quiero quedarme solo con la luz y las sombras, para esta forma interactuar con la obra desde un punto de vista diferente, observándola desde la realidad del presente, pero con un ángulo que tal vez apunta hacia el pasado. Es así como descubrimos que en Solo dos tonos también existe la belleza, también las formas combinan, los trazos se acoplan y el buen gusto se hace presente.
I am in the heart of a masterpiece of architecture and art, a space conceived in the late 1950s and designed to last forever; the hands of the era’s most important artists left their mark on it. Here, in these hallways and rooms, I trained to become a top-tier professional, and today I return, proud of my alma mater; but this time, I observe everything through the lens of art, pointing my camera’s lens toward those spaces that become the focal point of a series of images seeking to highlight the perfection where art, architecture, and nature converge.
Estoy en el corazón de una obra maestra de la arquitectura y el arte, un espacio concebido a finales de los años 50 y pensado para durar por siempre; sobre él las manos de los artistas más importantes de la época dejaron su huella. Acá en estos pasillos y salones me formé como un profesional de primera línea y hoy regreso orgulloso de mi alma máter, pero en esta ocasión observo todo bajo la mirada del arte, apuntando el lente de mi cámara hacia aquellos espacios que se convierten en el punto focal de una serie de imágenes que busca resaltar la perfección entre arte, arquitectura y naturaleza.
