El Camino Mágico

¡Hola!

The Magic Path

Hello! My name is David, the story I am going to tell you today happened a couple of decades ago, it was a time when I was 11 years old, and at that time I lived with my parents in a small house located on the outskirts of a village near the Andean moor, every morning I had to get up very early to get dressed, feed the chickens and take a short trip to school, which was several kilometers down the mountain, which meant for me easily an hour of travel.

The road that led to the school and then to the center of the village was a dirt road, where there was no street lighting and where we had on one side the mountain and on the other a series of cliffs that ended in streams and land that seemed unexplored, it was also an uncrowded road, since on it sat only a dozen houses, which like mine belonged to poor families who lived from planting and hunting, so the few vehicles that ran that route were chartered for cargo that twice a week went to look for crops to sell in town, that's how I got used to walk through the darkness of dawn without any fear, because little by little I became friends with nature and I understood their sounds, their shadows and whistles.

But to tell the truth one of the reasons why this road remained lonely was because many people considered that strange situations occurred there, the popular saying was that it was a route inhabited by sorcerers and witches, who in a time of bonanza and union worked together so that through enchantments and spells the land was very fertile and the fruits were the best in the whole area, This brought them great profits and riches, but when the population realized what was happening an uprising, which ended in an evil fire that devastated all the houses and fields, no matter how much those masters of magic wanted to defend themselves it was impossible and the heat of envy and rage ended forever with the prosperity and luck of the whole area.

The truth is that I did not give much credit to this story, but I was fascinated by the mysticism and passion with which everyone told it, that is why I never got bored of listening to it and little by little it became part of my life, but everything would change when one school morning I was about to go down that deserted road, a light rain began to fall, which made me remember that I had forgotten my raincoat, which would force me to stop if the rain became much stronger, Little by little the fine drops turned into big balls of water that were impacting heavily on the entire surface of the earth, I ran and entered a small cave that was behind some bushes between the mountain, I looked to the sides with my flashlight to make sure there were no animals and sat down to wait for the downpour to pass.

The water did not stop, it had been more than 40 minutes and the anguish began to take over me, it was going to be a real challenge to walk along that narrow road with such a level of swamp and water flowing towards the rich, But while I was sitting there I heard a series of steps behind me, I turned around and it was nothing, but when I turned my head back to the front I collided with the gaze of a woman who was looking at me right in the eyes, I jumped back and I was ready to run into the cavern, But to tell the truth this was not very big, when I took only 10 steps I would hit the bottom, when I put my hand on the rock I noticed that it was covered with ashes, an intense smell of smoke and something burned began to drive me crazy, while walking I felt a series of clicks in my feet, when I looked down the hotel they were burned bones that broke under the hardness of my boots, trying to look for the woman I ran back to the exit, but just before crossing the curtain of water that the rain had left a cold and skeletal hand would grab my backpack and propel me backwards again, I fell backwards and lost the flashlight, but suddenly a bright image like that of an angel would land before me, it was the face of that woman and in a language that at first I did not understand but then somehow I managed to understand she would tell me: "Calm down David do not be afraid, you are a good young man and full of courage, you will be the one to end so much suffering and pain" I without understanding absolutely nothing of what was happening simply is pale and not knowing what to do.

That is how after a series of words that I no longer remember that being would extend his hand to me and give me a strange book whose cover was burned, but for some reason its pages remained intact, after all the trance, the rain stopped, the sun came out and I was very scared and I left that cave and went back to my house, I told them what had happened and with an astonished face they told me that it had never rained at any time. By that time I knew that my story was not very credible, so I opened my backpack and looked for that book to give it to them, when they saw them they asked me where I took it from and it was there when I explained in detail all my experience, waiting for a scolding I remained silent, but that action never happened, my mother said it that the book realized what she had in her hands, it was an old my firstborn treatise of sorcery, which revealed the secrets of the universe and how to use them in favor of the sowing, It is in this way that little by little this knowledge was transferred from person to person, from mothers to daughters and from fathers to sons and a new era of prosperity would make this wasteland again a place of joy, prosperity and success.
