The Queen
Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda Park, located east of the city of Caracas, is more than just a recreational and sports facility; its grounds also feature a large aviary that is home to some truly incredible species. Many of these birds have been rescued by authorities after suffering cruel treatment or attempts at smuggling, which often makes life in captivity the only viable way to ensure the survival of these species.

El parque Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda, ubicado al este de la ciudad de Caracas, es más que un espacio recreativo y deportivo; en sus instalaciones también pueden encontrar un gran aviario, en cuyo interior existen especies realmente increíbles. Muchas de ellas han sido rescatadas por las autoridades después de haber sufrido tratos crueles o intentos de contrabando, lo cual en muchas ocasiones hace que la vida en cautiverio sea la única forma viable para garantizar la existencia de estas especies.
When a bird or any other animal is in captivity, it is important that all the necessary standards of care are met, since it is a living being. Peace of mind and healthy development are the cornerstones upon which zoos should be built. I know that in many cases this is a kind of utopia, which is why, personally, I’m not a big fan of these places, but they are part of a reality that cannot be ignored either.
Cuando un ave o cualquier otro animal se encuentra en cautiverio, es importante que se cumplan todos los estándares de cuidado que este necesita, puesto que se trata de un ser vivo. La tranquilidad y el buen desarrollo son el pilar sobre el cual deberían estar construidos los zoológicos. Sé que en muchas ocasiones esto es una especie de utopía, y es por ello que en lo personal no soy muy amante de estos espacios, pero son parte de una realidad que tampoco se puede ignorar.
The crowned crane is, without a doubt, an exotic species. According to information provided on site, it is impossible to find it in Venezuelan natural habitats, as its origins extend beyond our borders and even cross an entire ocean to reach the heart of Africa, where biodiversity is so incredible it stretches as far as the eye can see. It is precisely in those lands where the crane might find a peaceful haven, surrounded by vegetation and filled with the bounties of a world naturally designed for it.
La grulla coronada es un ave que, sin duda alguna, se trata de una especie exótica. Según información suministrada en el lugar, es imposible encontrarla en espacios naturales venezolanos, ya que sus raíces trascienden nuestras fronteras e incluso cruzan un océano entero hasta llegar a la madre de África, en donde la biodiversidad es tan increíble que se pierde de vista. Es justo sobre esas tierras en donde la grulla quizás encuentre un lugar tranquilo, rodeado de vegetación y repleto de las bondades de un mundo naturalmente diseñado para ella.
It is a true source of pride to be able to enjoy a specimen of this marvelous species in this park in the city of Caracas. Perhaps many have walked right past it, but very few have stopped to think about how unique this bird is, the long journey it has undertaken, and its history, which may well be full of contradictions. Like any exotic bird, this one is very striking; its characteristics cause many visitors to stop and admire it, and I hope that this very fact will serve as the incentive to ensure that it always has the best conditions in which to enjoy a fulfilling life, regardless of the circumstances.
Es un verdadero orgullo poder disfrutar de un ejemplar de esta maravillosa especie de este parque de la ciudad de Caracas. Quizás muchos han pasado delante de ella, pero muy pocos se han detenido a pensar en lo singular que es esta ave, el viaje tan largo que ha realizado y su historia, que quizás esté llena de contradicciones. Como toda ave exótica, esta resulta ser muy llamativa; sus características hacen que muchos visitantes se detengan ante su espacio y espero que sea justamente este el aliciente para que siempre se encuentren las mejores condiciones en donde pueda disfrutar de una vida plena en medio de las circunstancias.
