The Magic of Acting Consciously
A hug to my friends from @holos-lotus,
@charjaim invites us to value the essence of simplicity in his Initiative 40; here is his link for you.
@charjaim/la-esencia-de-lo-simple
I want to share something very simple that has profoundly changed me. For the past few days, I've been doing an exercise upon waking up: I inhale and exhale three times, then give thanks for everything. Even though I am grateful for what the universe grants me, this exercise is about doing what I do consciously.
Acting with full awareness transforms every gesture into a meaningful act. It's not just about completing tasks like automatons; it's about aligning our brain with the energies that surround us.
This conscious attention tames the instinct that dominates us, allowing us to perceive details, correct deviations, and connect deeply with what we are doing. At work, it increases effectiveness and quality; in relationships, it fosters true listening; in learning, it consolidates knowledge. Acting consciously is a simple act if we truly desire change.
This practice reduces anxiety and stress, turning the ordinary into a source of calm and personal mastery. Thus, life stops being a succession of empty pleas and becomes a conscious and enriching experience.
Conscious gratitude is a mindfulness exercise that transcends. It involves pausing to recognize, with genuine intention, the value of a gesture, support, or someone's simple presence. This active practice not only honors the other but transforms our perception.
By focusing on what we have received, we train the mind to identify the abundance that already exists in our lives, instead of what is lacking. And when I say abundance, I'm not just talking about money, but also job opportunities, health, love...
This reflective act generates internal well-being, strengthens bonds by making them visible, and places us in a state of humility and connection. Thus, gratitude ceases to be a fleeting reaction and becomes a fundamental habit that cultivates joy and enriches our experience of the world, word by word, acknowledgment by acknowledgment.
Our full awareness must also extend to analyzing what we say. Our words have power. In the heat of an argument, words can become projectiles that wound deeply and damage bonds.
Practicing full awareness of what we say in that crucial moment acts as an essential mental brake. It's not about repressing emotion, but observing it without letting it dominate our language. This conscious pause, this space between stimulus and response, allows us to choose terms that express our disagreement or pain without poisoning us. It involves active listening, understanding the root of the conflict beyond our own anger.
By maintaining this mindful attention in our speech, we protect the dignity of the other and our own. We transform the argument from a battlefield into a difficult but constructive exchange, where the goal ceases to be winning and becomes understanding and resolving. Thus, we avoid the bitter taste of impulsive words and lay the groundwork for authentic reconciliation, building, even in disagreement, bridges instead of walls.
The constant practice of awareness acts as a protective filter and an essential nutrient for our being. It primarily spares us the upsets derived from impulsivity: hasty decisions, hurtful words in an argument, and emotional reactions we later regret.
At the same time, it frees us from the discomfort of living defensively, mired in anxiety about the future or resentment about the past. What it provides us is profound: an authentic connection with the present, greater clarity to discern, more honest relationships, and the ability to respond instead of react.
It cultivates patience, compassion, and a self-knowledge that transforms every experience, even adversity, into an opportunity for growth. Thus, awareness becomes the simplest compass guiding us towards a more intentional and fulfilling life.
What I haven't told you is that what is simple is not always easy, because even to remember upon waking up, you need willpower and awareness.
