Today I have the pleasure of inviting you to explore and walk another day through the streets of my city Ciego de Ávila, taking in its urban styles, natural landscapes, and the grayish atmosphere that accompanies the everyday Avileño. I'll also take you on a visit to the town of 'Ortiz' in the northern area, with its different avenues, colonial buildings, homes with stories, the people, and everyday spaces all the way until sunset.

Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a recorrer y caminar otro día, por las calles de mi ciudad Ciego de Ávila, desde sus estilos urbanísticos, paisajes naturales y ambiente grisáceo que acompaña al avileño de a pie. También les presentaré un encuentro por el poblado de 'Ortiz' en la zona norte, con distintas avenidas, edificios coloniales, hogares con historias, la gente y espacios cotidianos hasta el atardecer.

I always appreciate these walks at the end of the day—they help me relax a bit from the daily stress and are good for my health.
This time, I walked through Reparto de Ortiz, a residential area of the city of Ciego de Ávila crossed by the Machaca Stream. This route is ideal for lovers of long strolls. The photos invite you to enjoy every detail: take in the streets, look at the facades, observe the doorways, and above all, chat with the people who live here.
Siempre aprecio estas caminatas al terminar el día, me relajan un poco del estrés diario y son buenas para mi salud.
En esta ocasión, recorrí el Reparto de Ortiz, una zona residencial de la ciudad avileña atravesada por el Arroyo Machaca. Este itinerario resulta ideal para los amantes de los largos paseos. Las fotografías invitan a disfrutar cada detalle: contemplar sus calles, mirar las fachadas, observar los portales y, sobre todo, conversar con quienes viven aquí.
The expansive cloud cover made it much easier to walk through the neighborhood at a leisurely pace, ideal for capturing moments with the weather. Ortiz is characterized by the presence of vernacular and eclectic architecture, with doorways, columns, wrought-iron grilles, and different construction solutions that give it a particular identity.
Going up the Guajira hill, you'll find several markets—by this time, many of the stalls were closed, but here they sell basic household food staples and there's also a recreational bar.
La extensa nube, ayudaba mucho a caminar sin prisa el barrio, ideal para captar momentos con el clima. Es caracterizado Ortiz por la presencia de arquitectura vernácula y ecléctica, con portales, columnas, rejas y diferentes soluciones constructivas que le dan una identidad particular.
Subiendo la loma de la Guajira, se localizan varios mercados, que a estas horas estaban cerrados varios puestos, pero aquí se venden alimentos de primera necesidad para el hogar y algún bar recreativo.
These quiet, continuous streets, where grass grows between the sidewalks and the pavement, bear the names of independence figures—which turns the walk into more than just a stroll: it's also a way to get closer to the memory of Ciego de Ávila.
Very close by is the park of Brigadier José Ambrosio Gómez Cardoso, his bust surrounded by vegetation, representing a key figure of Cuba's wars of independence, and his legacy remains present here in our city.
Estas calles silenciosas continuas, donde la hierba crece entre las aceras y el pavimento, presentan nombres de figuras independentistas lo que convierte el recorrido en algo más que una caminata: también en una manera de acercarse a la memoria de Ciego de Ávila.
Muy cerca está el parque del Brigadier José Ambrosio Gómez Cardoso, su busto rodeado de vegetación, expresa una figura representativa de las guerras de independencia en Cuba y su legado sigue presente aquí en nuestra ciudad.
Continuing the journey, I show them a common reality in the province and the neighborhood: buildings that have stood for decades and now require maintenance, although I doubt that, given the country's current situation, it could be resolved in years.
Some facades show clear deterioration, the streets have uneven surfaces and potholes, and certain areas are overgrown with weeds or show clear signs of neglect.

Despite all the problems that can be seen, Ortiz is an environment with very little economic development, but with good people and a strong will to get ahead.
Although the photographs are mainly focused on the streets and their surroundings, the true protagonist of the tour through the area is its people.

The Repart stands as a neighborhood of contrasts: colorful houses alongside dilapidated buildings; quiet avenues crossed by electrical wires; green spaces that survive amid the concrete, and historical monuments surrounded by everyday life.
It is already very difficult to live in Cuba. This year, the population has hardly had any vacations, with inflation, the closure of hotels in the northern keys, and the ban on going to the beach—all of which makes the people less and less willing to stay in the country and keep fighting.
El Reparto se ubica como un barrio de contrastes: viviendas coloridas junto a construcciones deterioradas; avenidas tranquilas atravesadas por cables eléctricos; espacios verdes que sobreviven entre el cemento y monumentos históricos rodeados por la vida cotidiana.
Ya es muy difícil vivir en cuba, ni vacaciones este año a tenido la población casi con la inflación, los cierres de hotel de los cayos del norte, la prohibición de ir a la playa, hace que el pueblo cada día tenga menos ganas de continuar en el país y de luchar.
Ciego de Ávila is recognized for its architectural heritage and for a history that dates back to the 19th century.
The neighbors still greet me as I pass by, with great humanity, simplicity, and a deep sense of identity. There are no grand spectacles or famous monuments, but there is something much more valuable: the feeling of belonging to a place where every street tells a story and every afternoon has the power to become an unforgettable memory.
Ciego de Ávila es reconocida por su patrimonio arquitectónico y por una historia que se remonta al siglo XIX.
Los vecinos todavía me saludan al pasar, con gran humanidad, sencillez y llenos de identidad. Walking through my town is like flipping through an album of living memories. It is a story that, despite the years, remains stuck in very poor economic development.
Ortiz is not just a place on the map of Ávila. It is a piece of the city that has been lived in, built, and remembered by its people.
