"Toxic Positivity" is this idea of injecting positivity in to places where maybe it is inappropriate or not needed

If you're mad or sad, maybe it's fine to just be mad or sad - don't need to "think positively" about things

Like, if someone you care about just died, you can grieve and feel all the "negative" emotions with that - in the Christian worldview we're supposed to hate death, it's not in a sense a "natural" or a "good thing" but a punishment for sin and is something we can just feel angry about, but we can also come to terms with it

I guess there can be "toxic negativity" as well, and that's the extreme that people try to get rid of when we get caught up in negative emotions and it harms us

If we're angry and beat up on someone, or sad and harm ourselves, maybe those are "toxic negative" reactions. If we feel mad or sad but try to delude ourselves by "looking on the bright side" even when we feel it's just a rainy day, maybe that is "toxic positivity". I think emotions can serve a purpose of telling us that some things are right or wrong and it can be good to listen to them (but at other times they may be irrational and need to be managed).

What do you think of the ideas of "toxic positivity" and "toxic negativity"?
