I recently visited Ori Oke Ikoyi in Osun State, and honestly, it was an experience I wanted to share.
Before going there, I had heard people talk about the mountain and its importance as a place of prayer. But there is a difference between hearing about a place and actually standing there yourself.
A little history
Ori Oke Ikoyi is a prayer mountain connected with the ministry of Apostle Joseph Ayodele Babalola, one of the well known early Nigerian evangelists and an important figure in the history of the Christ Apostolic Church.
The mountain became known as a place of prayer and spiritual seeking during the revival period of the 1930s. Apostle Babalola was known for his strong commitment to prayer, fasting and evangelism. Today, people still visit Ori Oke Ikoyi to pray, seek God and spend time away from their normal surroundings.
My experience
When I got there, the first thing that caught my attention was the mountain itself. Looking at it from below, I knew the climbing was going to require some effort.
There are steps leading up the mountain, and as I climbed, I kept thinking about the number of people who must have walked those same steps over the years, each person carrying their own prayer points and expectations.
I also visited a place called Mercy Land. I saw people walking around the area while praying. I noticed that some people also kept bottles of water and oil there as part of their personal spiritual practices.
For me, the interesting part was simply seeing all these things with my own eyes. It made me think about how people express their faith and how important places of prayer can be to different people.
My visit to Ori Oke Ikoyi was not just about climbing a mountain. It was also about seeing a place with a long spiritual history and experiencing the atmosphere for myself. I took some pictures along the way, and looking at them again brings back the memories of the visit.
Sometimes, you really have to visit a place yourself before you can understand why people keep talking about it.
It was indeed a wonderful spiritual awakening moment and tour for me...
