One habit I am currently trying to build is learning not to prove myself all the time, even when I know I am right.
Naturally, I am the kind of person who would want to explain myself when someone says I am wrong, especially when I know what I am saying is true. I would want to bring out every detail, explain what happened, and make sure the person understands my side.

But I have come to realize that sometimes, in trying to prove myself right, I end up hurting myself more.
There have been situations where I could have continued explaining and defending myself, but instead, I just walked away. And honestly, I see that as one of the ways God has been helping me grow.

I am learning that I do not have to respond to everything.
Sometimes, after saying what I need to say, the best thing I can do is remain quiet. Not because I am weak or because I have nothing to say, but because I have realized that continuing the argument may only leave me offended, angry, and wounded in my spirit.

There are moments when I get to the point where I ask myself, Do I really need to prove this? And sometimes, the answer is simply no. I am also learning that saying sorry does not always mean that I am admitting that I was wrong. Sometimes, I can choose to apologize for my part in how a situation went, or simply choose peace instead of continuing an argument. I am learning that there is strength in that too.

This is not easy for me because I know my natural self. There are situations where the old me would have kept talking until I proved my point. But I am beginning to understand that maturity is not always about having the last word.
Sometimes, maturity is knowing when to stop talking.
Sometimes, it is walking away.
Sometimes, it is keeping quiet.
And sometimes, it is choosing peace even when I know I am right.

I am still learning, and I do not get it right every time. But I can honestly see a change in myself, and I believe God is helping me become more self controlled and intentional in how I respond to people.
For me, this is one of the good habits I am building, learning that I do not have to prove myself to everyone.
Sometimes, knowing the truth within myself is enough.
