Lately I have been thinking about how easy it is to overlook the small things in life, Sometimes we are so focused on the big things we want to achieve that we forget to appreciate the little progress we are already making. As a student I have plenty of things I want to achieve and I want to finish school, become successful, make money, help my family and also build a good life for myself.
These are things I think about a lot But sometimes thinking too much about the future can make you forget to enjoy where you are right now and I am learning to change that. There are days when I wake up and everything feels normal and I go about my day, attend lectures, meet my friends, do some work and eventually return home, It may look like an ordinary day but when I think about it properly, being able to wake up go out and continue with my plans is already something worth appreciating, Not every day has to be a big achievement.
Sometimes just finishing a difficult task is enough and Sometimes passing a small test, understanding something you struggled with in class, helping somebody or even having a good conversation with a friend can make your day better and I have also started appreciating the people around me more. Sometimes we get used to having certain people around us and forget that their presence actually means something.
A simple phone call from a friend somebody checking up on you or someone helping you when you need it can make a big difference.
Even the small jokes and random conversations we have with friends can become memories later, Another thing I am learning is to appreciate my own effort because there are times when I look at myself and feel like I haven't done enough because I see other people achieving different things and I start wondering why I am not moving as fast as them But then I remind myself that I am also trying.
Maybe my progress is slow, but it is still progress.
I don't need to become successful overnight, One small step today can lead to something bigger tomorrow and
I am also learning that difficult days don't cancel the good days. Sometimes you can have a stressful week, feel tired, get disappointed by something and still have a reason to smile, Life is a mixture of different experiences.
Some days will be good, some will be bad, and some will just be normal And honestly, those normal days matter too, I don't want to spend all my time waiting for the day when everything will finally be perfect before I allow myself to be happy. There may always be something to worry about and something to improve or another goal to chase.
So I am learning to enjoy the journey too
If I have food to eat, people to talk to, a chance to learn and another day to try again, I have reasons to be grateful
I am still working on myself and I still have many things I want to accomplish But I am beginning to understand that personal growth is not only about reaching the destination.
It is also about noticing the little changes along the way. Maybe I am not where I want to be yet but I am not exactly where I started either and for now I think that is something worth appreciating
