Sometimes, a beautiful creation starts with an idea that refuses to leave your mind.
I got this tricycle tyre early last year after seeing something that inspired me. Since then, I have been thinking about how to recreate it in my own way. Every time I passed by the tyre, I remembered the idea, but I kept postponing the project.
Gradually, I started gathering my materials. I got the foam, bought Evo-Stik gum, and kept everything aside. Still, I did not start until I could clearly picture what I wanted to create. Once the idea became clear in my mind, I finally picked up my materials and got to work.
For the metal stand, I had to involve a welder because I do not know how to weld. The rest was about bringing my idea to life!
MATERIALS USED
Tricycle tyre
Foam
Evo stick gum
Chair fabric
Sewing machine
Plywood
Iron for the stand
MY PROCEDURE
Firstly, I started by cleaning the tyre properly to prepare it for the work ahead because it's an old tyre.
Secondly I Padded up the tyre
I cut the foam into suitable sizes, applied Evo-Stik gum to the tyre, and attached the foam to pad it. I also cut a piece of plywood into a circular shape to fit the face of the tyre. I padded both faces of the plywood with foam and glued it to the tyre.
Thirdly I added more foam around the body to cover open spaces and make everything look full and puffy. I wanted the finished work to look like a proper table, not an old tyre!
I measured and cut my chair fabric to fit the tyre. Using my sewing machine, I joined the pieces together to make a cover. I made a small opening for the rope, placed the cover over the padded tyre, pulled the rope tight underneath, and tied it securely.
I covered the second piece of plywood with fabric and glued it underneath to conceal the tied rope and give the table a neat finish.
With the padded top ready and the metal stand provided by the welder, my centre table finally came together.
I am glad I finally turned an idea I carried for months into something beautiful and useful.
What do you think of my creation?
