Mia and I had so much fun making these easy peasy lemon squeezy treats.
They look NOTHING like the picture in the book, but boy they taste good!
For surely that’s what this sort of cooking is about – getting the kids involved, getting your fingers mucky and being able to nom nom nom at the end of it!
These treats are perfectly messy. And Mia made them pretty much entirely on her own. Hence the proud, chocolate-smeared face in the photo above!
Ingredients
1-2 slightly under-ripe bananas
110g milk or plain chocolate
Sprinkles and/or coconut
Method
Peel the bananas and chop the flesh into 6 pieces.
Break the chocolate into a heatproof bowl and put it over a pan of simmering water to melt the chocolate. Stir occasionally and when melted, leave to cool slightly.
The recipe calls for you to push a straw through the banana to ‘hold’ it, but we found the banana kept slipping around the straw so you couldn’t manoeuvre it at all. So instead we used wooden skewers the second time around.
Drizzle the chocolate over each piece of banana. Note, it will NOT look anything like the picture in the book. I tried. So just get used to it.
Roll the chocolate-coated banana in the sprinkles/coconut.
Let the chocolate harden.
Lick the bowl clean. Waste not want not.
Scoff chocolate banana bites.
Note: If you lie your bites on a plate to harden, make sure you move them before they’re too set or they will stick to the plate.
Work quickly with the melted chocolate; it doesn’t stay molten forever!
Enjoy!
