馃弮 My Running Log | Norwich Parkrun | 02/02 | 5km | Total - 129.6km in 2019!
I just finished a 4.985km run that lasted about 0hh:21mm:56ss !
Today's Parkrun was hard. I woke up yesterday with a cold/flu and it got progressively worse as the day went on, I got very little sleep overnight, and had absolutely no appetite this morning so I was forced to do a 'fasted' run. I told myself before the start that anything under 23 minutes would be a solid time considering my current state of health. On top of being ill, the weather has been pretty bad for the past few days and in places the paths were just sheet ice - my foot slipped out from underneath me a couple of times and it wasn't easy going.
I started off pretty steady at 4:20m/km, probably a little faster than I would have liked but the start tends to be a fast one at Norwich as some people don't really adjust their starting position to their times, and it's a battle to overtake people who really should've been at the back of the group. The second kilometre was still quite steady, 4:26m/km, and it wasn't until the 3rd and 4th kilometre that I started to struggle with the symptoms; 4:37m/km & 4:43m/km respectively, the fourth kilometre definitely could have been a faster one but it's typically where I overtake the majority of Parkrunners and with them trying to dodge the ice, it wasn't as easy as just zooming past on the left. For about 70% of my run, another runner was sticking to me like glue and in the last kilometre or so started to pant very loudly - I have a pet hate of noisy runners, so I decided to kick on and see what I could do. I lined up a runner in front of me, went straight past him, and continued for about 6 or 7 runners in front - my last kilometre was 4:10m/km and my fastest of the day! There's a 200m segment just before the finish and I ran that in 3:34m/km, and the final 700m segment I ran in 3:45m/km.
I also forgot my barcode so had to run 1km to go grab it, 1km to run back to have it scanned, and then 1km back home. I don't record those journeys as I don't like to have my pace skewed.
