My Golden Cross cabbage is ready for the harvest. This variety of cabbage produces a softball sized head and is ready to harvest within 45-70 days.
Looks like this year I will have a bumper crop of figs if I can manage to keep the squirrels away.
Skye is my prized squirrel chaser. Notice I said chaser, not catcher though it is not for a lack of effort on her part.
Sometimes petunias are fantastic and then sometimes they just wither away.
A week ago this planter looked like this.
Who knows????
The tomatoes are coming in very nicely!
My experiment with a Hugel mound is working out very nicely.
The peppers are thriving! The cucumber vines are trellising nicely down the side of the logs.
Looks like I will be enjoying a fresh cucumber this week.
The zucchini is blossoming but has yet to set any fruit. I need the bees to get busy!
I planted bush beans and ocra in an old whisky barrel. Although the beans are bigger than the ocra for now, the ocra should quickly sprout up to tower over the beans.
What else?
I planted some more squash.
The seeds have germinated and are just coming out of the soil.
I can't remember what these are, either squash or cucumbers? Time will tell.
The broccoli is just now forming a small crown!
I added some eggplant this week.
My basil and oregano are doing really well. And I must say that any pasta dish with fresh basil and oregano is light years better!
The heat we had last week killed all my lettuce and put a halt on my snow peas. The snow peas I moved out of the direct sun with the hopes that the shade will encourage more production.
I did try to cut the lettuce back in a failed experiment that perhaps the lettuce would regrow. It did not happen. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
This year is the first year that I am utilizing mostly containers to grow vegetables. I did this because the weeding had just gotten too much for me.
Who wants to spend hours weeding in an endless battle?
This has been my Sunday tour of the garden and I hope you have enjoyed sharing this time with me.
Peace out and I will update you on the progress of my garden next Sunday.
Peace out.
