Lemme guess, have you ever tried those fried sesame balls? at the dim sum halls maybe? those sesame balls are usually served with various sizes to enjoy in between savory dim sum.

Sesame balls can be found in many Asian countries, such as Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Japan, China, etc.


So, if anyone is looking for dessert which is richer, something deep fried never fails to try. This sesame balls recipe delivers with crispy and golden outer shell, and can be filled with sweet mung beans, black or red beans, peanuts paste, and covered in white sesame seeds.

Have you ever succeeded try to make those sesame balls at home? Possibly yes, I guess some of you guys might have tried.

INGREDIENTS 馃摑

For the shell

  • 300 glutinous rice flour
  • 100 g rice flour
  • 80 g sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 200 ml warm water
  • sesame seeds as needed
  • oil to fry as needed

For the filling

  • 200 g mung beans
  • 80 g sugar
  • 100 ml coconut milk
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Steps to make it

01 Mung Bean Filling Instructions

  • Steam mung beans until perfectly cooked and soft. ( soak the mung beans over night it helps to cook it faster)

  • Gather all the ingredients, coconut milk, sugar, vanilla and salt.

  • Smash or blend them all together.

  • Roll about a tsp of mung bean paste into a ball. Set aside.

02 Shells Instructions

  • Gather all the ingredients together.

  • In a mixing bowl, mix all the ingredients except sesame seeds. (glutinous rice flour, rice flour, sugar, salt, and warm water) mix them until become nice and smooth dough.

  • Pinch off a piece of dough roughly about the size of golf ball, flattened it and place a ball of mung beans paste right on the centre and shape the dough over the top to seal.

  • Roll the ball over the sesame seeds ( you can Deep the ball into the small bowl of water if needed, to help the sesame seeds stick to the ball).

  • Repeat the process with the remainder of the balls.

  • Deep fry the sesame seed balls into hot oil with low heat to prevent pop up.

  • Once the sesame seeds turn light brown (about 2-3 minutes) remove the balls and drain them on paper towel.
