Seeing that clean white cutout on the black background already makes it clear that this is going to be something special.
...using blue chalk/powder blended with your finger creates a perfect atmosphere, I love this technique because it gives an instant fog or moonlight effect. The contrast between the white mold and the blue powder is already creating a magical atmosphere.
And here comes the plot twist! With a light illuminating the dust, the figure begins to glow. That blue light makes the dancer look like she is made of glass or that she is floating among the clouds. The composition is already a work of art.
Boom! This is where the magic becomes awesome. By removing the mold and painting its silhouette black, the contrast is brutal. Now the dancer is the shadow, but the light she placed before is trapped under her skirt, giving the illusion that she is illuminated from below. The round moon in the corner gives it a fairytale feel.
The final detail with the white pencil or brush to mark the edge of the leg and the toe is the icing on the cake. Without that detail, it would just be a flat silhouette; With that touch, it comes to life and movement.
