Since I mostly take black-and-white photos, it’s sometimes difficult to tell whether the photos were taken during the day or at night. Without colors, the usual clues disappear. The sky, the shadows, and the warmth of the light are no longer obvious. What remains are shapes, textures, contrast, and the feeling that the photo gives.
But there is one style that clearly shows the photo was taken at night, and that is my light-through-leaves style.
In these photos, the light is glowing behind the leaves, almost like it is trying to pass through them and reveal every tiny detail. I really like this effect because it makes the leaves look more dramatic and mysterious. The veins, edges, and patterns become more visible, especially when the light is strong enough to shine through the thinner parts of the leaf.
It’s amazing how a simple leaf can look so different when photographed this way. During the day, it might just look like an ordinary plant. But at night, with the light placed behind it, the same leaf becomes something more artistic. It almost looks like it has its own energy.
Photography always reminds me that ordinary things can become interesting depending on how we look at them. Sometimes, all it takes is a different angle, a different time of day, or a glowing light behind the subject.
That is why I enjoy experimenting with black-and-white photography. It allows me to focus more on mood and contrast instead of color.
Have a good day ahead.
