Carlos no sospechaba nada.

Me alegra verte.

—¡Feliz cumpleaños primo!

—¿Y cómo te va en el trabajo? ¿qué tal con los alumnos?

—Bien, bien.

Ana y Luis salieron corriendo.

¿Divorciarme yo?

Sí, divorciarme yo.

Trying to get out of my comfort zone I bring you a tragicomic story torn from life itself that will wrinkle your heart.

I invite you to enjoy it and leave your comments.

Carlos was a happy man. He had been married to Ana, the woman of his dreams, for ten years. They had a nice house, a faithful dog and two adorable children.

Carlos worked as an accountant in an insurance company and Ana was a primary school teacher. Carlos believed that everything was going very well in their marriage, that they loved and respected each other, that they were an exemplary couple.

Ana did not have that thought. Ana was bored with Carlos, with his routine, with his lack of passion. Ana felt that she had married too young, that she hadn't lived enough, that she had missed out on so much. Ana wanted more excitement, more adventure, more risk. So when she met Luis, a co-worker who happened to be Carlos' cousin, she couldn't resist his charms.

Luis was the opposite of Carlos: funny, daring, seductive. Luis made her feel things that Carlos hadn't made her feel for a long time. Luis proposed romantic getaways, sent her spicy messages, gave her flowers and jewelry. Ana fell in love with Luis and began to cheat on Carlos.

Carlos suspected nothing. He was so sure of his wife that he never checked her phone, email or social networks. Carlos trusted Ana completely and thought she trusted him too. Carlos didn't notice the signs: Ana's frequent outings with her friends, the excuses for not making love, the elusive glances, the nervous smiles.

Everything changed on Carlos' birthday. Ana prepared a surprise party for him with all his family and friends. Carlos was thrilled to see all his loved ones gathered to celebrate with him. Among them was Luis, who had been invited as a courtesy. Carlos gave him a hug and thanked him for his presence.

—Thank you for coming cousin. It's good to see you.

—Happy birthday cousin!

—And how are you doing at work, how are you doing with the students?

—Good, good. Everything normal.

—And in love, have you found someone special?

—Well... yes... Luis hesitated.

—Yes? Who is she? -Do I know her?

—Well... yes... Luis turned red.

—Yes? Who is it? -Tell me!

—Well... it's...

Luis looked at Ana with anguish.

—Who is it?

Carlos followed her gaze.

—It's... Ana... - Luis dropped the bomb.

Carlos froze. He could not believe it. He looked at Ana in disbelief and saw in her face the confirmation of his betrayal. Ana lowered her head in shame and said nothing.

Carlos felt a mixture of rage, pain and disappointment. He wanted to scream, to cry, to hit. But he did none of those things. He remained still, without reacting, without understanding.

The party turned into abysmal silence. All the guests were dumbfounded by Luis' revelation. They were all dead.

Carlos broke the silence with a nervous laugh.

—Divorce me? -he said with laughter. —What a good joke! What a good joke! What a good present!

Carlos continued laughing like a madman while everyone looked at him with pity and compassion.

Ana and Luis looked at each other with guilt and regret.

Carlos approached them and said:

—Thank you for making me laugh so much, but now seriously: get out of my house and out of my life. And don't ever come back.

Carlos turned his back on them and went to his room.

Ana and Luis ran out.

The party ended abruptly.

Carlos locked himself in his room filled with terror at the betrayal.

Divorce me?

Yes, divorce me.
