I have never been so confused like I was this morning when I saw the Hive Learner second prompt for this week because I have never been asked such a question in my entire life.

The HL prompt

If you were told that the world could be finally saved from all kinds of tribulations, all I have to do is sacrifice my life. Would I do it for the sake of everyone else's happiness?

Saying YES would mean that I won't be part of the beautiful future I intend to sacrifice myself for, a type of world my heart has been longing to see, while saying NO would make me the most selfish human who has the power to end all the suffering and pain in the world but refuses to do so.

Phew! It's indeed a tough one to tackle, and before going further, I quickly asked my mom a few questions to be sure I was not making the wrong decision.

Me: Did an angel appear to you to give a prophecy about me saving the world even before I was born?

Mom: No, only your father appeared to me.

Me: Was I by any chance born in a manger?

Mom: No, I gave birth to you in a hospital.

Me: Did just one wise man visited or brought any gifts, not even to speak of three?

Mom: There were no wise men or foolish ones either.

Me: Did any king try killing me, or were all the male children killed during that time?

Mom: Aside from mosquitoes, nothing was close to harming you.

I felt relieved to an extent by all her responses, which proved that it was never my destiny to sacrifice myself for this crazy world we live in.

Growing up, I have made lots of personal sacrifices for my friends, family, and even strangers, but not at the expense of my life.

I do not intend to sound mean, but the world itself is a mean place, and when I say mean, it is all about humans.

Did you even know that Jesus Christ almost bobbed his mission, but because he wasn't just a mortal man like me, he ended by saying, Father, let thy will be done?

Despite the fact that Jesus died for our sins, look at where we are today. The sin in the world today has tripled what used to be called sin back then, and it's even worse that a lot of people still do not believe in him despite everything that has been prophecied even before this birth.

To cut the story short, one thing I am certain of is that my sacrifice will never make any difference in the world, and I won't be surprised if the world does not even remember after two weeks. If you look deeply, people sacrificing themselves for a greater good in this world has never worked out because humans easily forget things once they start feeling comfortable.

The foundations of many countries were built on people's sacrifices, but where are the good things they once fought for?

Remember what happened during the END SARS protest? A lot of youth who didn't stop protesting even when the government threatened them lost their lives, and I remember people posting on different social media that the sacrifices of those whose lives were taken would not be forgotten.

Ask this same people to mention one out of the names of the victims that day. I bet 99% of the Nigerian population, aside from the victims families, will remember it.

Not remembering them is not even the case, it's sad their sacrifices ended as nothing because, a few months after the all the tragedy, the police resumed their monstrous habit.

You might be wondering why I am keen on the fact that my sacrifice won't make any difference, but that's the fact. The hearts of men are full of evil; we are full of greed and hate, so how do we expect a world where evil dominates to be a better place?

Honestly, it would be my joy to see my friends and family live in a beautiful and happy world, but if my life will be the price for it, let's just continue living together in this world as it is, and hopefully, things can get better than they currently are right now.

Inflation, insecurity, natural disasters, disease and every thing you can think of didn't start today. We have been coping for a while, and I believe that with everything we are even experiencing now, the future will be bearable no matter what. I really don't want to end up as a sacrifice for this world because I also deserve to be part of those who will enjoy the new world.

If anyone needs my help and it's within my capability, I will glad do it but when it comes to my life, don't even bother asking because it would only end in a serious quarrel.

I am not tired of the rice I am eating even if I don't have chicken, I am not tired of the beautiful nature, I am not tired of watching Liverpool play, I am not tired of seeing beautiful smile on my family faces so I have numerous reasons to refuse being a sacrificial lamb for the world.

I can't be the Messiah for this world, so let me just stop here, and if you think I am being cruel with my decision, please take the stage and be the hero. If the world ever forgets you, I promise not to.

馃 to a better world in advance.
