There I was, laying prone on my shooting mat looking through the scope at my target over 1200 metres away. It looked large through the scope thanks to the 24x magnification I'd dialled up but I knew it was no larger than the torso of a small human...I'd dialled in the adjustment to the elevation turret only moments before...Checked the wind and dialled in the windage adjustment...All was in readiness to take the shot.

My left eye opened to check the scope level ensuring the rifle was level to Earth and, satisfied it was, I allowed my body to relax...Started my breathing protocol...Moved my finger onto the trigger applying a little pressure...As my body relaxed and my breathing fell into a slow deliberate cadence the pressure on the trigger increased...I looked through the scope at the target, saw the mirage boiling at 45 degrees to the left - A 4-5mph wind from right to left - The same as I determined it only seconds earlier...My exhaled breath met it's natural stopping-point and...Bing bing bing...My fucking phone went off!

I know I shouldn't have let it put me off my shot but it did. I released the trigger-pressure, opened the bolt which ejected the round and reached for my phone...It was Faith.

I've been out all weekend with a few mates testing some long range shooting stages we are designing for an upcoming long range competition...You can read about it here from a few days ago. It's been a good mini-getaway and a nice chance to get some serious long range shooting done...And tell lies around the campfire with a couple good mates.

Whilst I was away Faith, my ever-loving wife, decided to go to IKEA with her mum. I had mixed feelings...Missing out on going to IKEA was a bonus but missing out on Swedish meatballs at IKEA made me a little sad. Anyway, she went and despite knowing we don't need anything I figured I'd come home to something new.

Usually when I'm out shooting Faith leaves me alone. Sure, I'm always available in the advent of an emergency, but typically she lets me have my gun-time and doesn't bother me. Today however...

...I was just getting into my groove, impacting steel targets from between 1000 metres and out to 1400 metres with my 6.5mm Creedmoor rifle when my phone pinged. Bing bing bing...New text message G-dog. It was Faith.

I thought for the sake of a laugh I'd share the text message thread with you. Her messages are in green, mine in grey.

I put my phone away and shook my head a few times and went back to the more important task of shooting at long range knowing I'd get home and find a cupboard full of blue dinner plates and bowls. I guess I'm lucky she was at IKEA and not some more expensive shop!

But here's the kicker...I got home and found pink ones! Yeah, I know right? [Insert roll of eyes here]. At least she didn't text to ask me about them.

I'll be honest with you; I don't care what colour the dinner plates, bowls or coffee cups are as long as there's food on them and coffee in the cups...But Faith likes colour-coordination and so I'll be eating dinner off completely chip-free pink plates for a while to come.

I shouldn't complain I guess; Faith isn't one to waste money and isn't much of a shopper really. Our dinner plates, bowls and cups were starting to look a little worse-for-wear and it was about time they were changed so, thanks IKEA.

Just in case you're wondering...Yeah, I had an awesome time out shooting this weekend. We got a lot done which I'll write about during the week at some stage...And I had a blast. Look out for my post later in the week if you're keen.

I hope you guys have had a great weekend and have found something enjoyable to fill it with. If you're keen you still have the chance to join in week seven of the #weekend-engagement topic...I've got 135 hive in prizes to give away in about 18 hours so there's still time to enter and maybe win something. Take a look at the post here to enter.

Later y'all...I'm off to eat my Sunday night dinner off some pink plates.
