The amazing thing about hawker stalls is that although they appear to be offering similar food they still manage to add their flavor and taste to it. I’m about the mix of veggie stalls that every hawker center has. This is the kind of stall that despite that they follow a specific template some of them has done a unique approach to the product that they sell.
I found a mixed veggie stall in Woodlands that left a good impression on me. I think that what they are doing is adding an extra layer of value to their food.
During this meal, I ordered sautéed vegetables, lemon chicken, and Chinese sausage.
Each one of the dishes was very good. It’s as if the chef made sure that he puts extra care and attention to the details of the dish. Each piece of the vegetables was properly picked which means the chef has discarded the bad ones. Hence, each bite of these vegetables is good. There’s a nice crunch to it and the inside is tender as well. I can taste the freshness of the vegetable.
While the lemon chicken is not just an ordinary recipe. What’s interesting about it is that the chef has added shredded apples on top of it. He also coated the shredded apples with lemon to prevent them from turning brown, how cool!
Finally, the Chinese sausage is unexpectedly good. Usually, this type of sausage is added to a clay pot dish so that it soaks up some of the liquid to make it tender. This time, it’s a dish on its own. I’m surprised that even though it was deep-fried, it remains tender inside. The chef knows what he’s doing in every dish that he prepares. I’m quite impressed!
Another aspect of this dish that I want to commend is the curry/sauce that was drizzled over the rice. I think that this is the best that I’ve gotten as a compliment from a mix of veggie rice so far.
I’ll be back to try the other dishes soon!
