Before I go to the reasons why I didn't sign-up for it, let me tell you what I'm about to do last night.
I'm actually trying to create an EOS account using Scatter. I'm not good at it and so I got lost for a while until I went through the basics (username, password...etc). The last step is the part where I needed to deposit EOS tokens (about 1.7...EOS) to create the account.
It's not free. I'm about to convert my Steem earnings to EOS to complete the account creation.
And it's about 33 Steem!!!
I'm not a cheap person but I feel like my Steem is so undervalued by this EOS account creation. I stopped and didn't finish the process.
I figured that maybe, I'll wait for EOS to announce about "MEOS" which is now "Voice".
I've watched the presentation. It was a great presentation and it looks professional enough to maintain my attention the whole time. Come to the announcement of the new social media app - VOICE. It sounds legit. They made it clear that it will be a platform for real humans and they will eradicate bots & trolls, which is a good thing.
IMHO, I wasn't excited about it. Probably because they hyped it so much that my level of expectation is so high and they failed to reach it.
Even though, Voice didn't really excite me, I went to the page to sign-up since, Dan mentioned that a user can create a free EOS account using it. As I land to the page, the sign-up process seem simple, similar to what a mainstream social media have.
The app isn't ready yet...:(
The sign-up is basically gathering people who wish to participate and would want to receive newsletters and updates from EOS.
About the Voice app, based on what I gathered it will function to something similar as Twitter. Contrary to what Steemit does which is a Reddit style platform.
Since I'm not a big Twitter user, I didn't sign-up. As simple as that ;)
Given the fact that Steemit & Voice doesn't really collide in terms of specific use & it seem that they can co-exist... I can confidently say that there's no such thing as "Steem(it) Killer".
