So we had tons of parents rallying together when they found out what their kids were learning during COVID. I didn't even have kids in the public school system. I heard God say, I want you to go to the school board meeting.
I'm like, all right, God, I'm going to go, but I'm not speaking. That's funny when you tell God he's going to do something. So I had not signed up to speak.
You sign up, you get like two minutes to say your piece, and that's all you get. And so I had no speech prepared, nothing. And we had some amazing speakers from the community in defense of these children, pastors, different people in the community, parents speaking out.
The main issues at the time were masks, CRT, and transgender bathroom policies were the three issues on the table that they were upset about. And I felt God nudge me to walk up there and speak. I'm like, Lord, I'm having this conversation in my head in the moment.
I am not going up there. I am not prepared. I hate public speaking, and I just felt that nudge from the Holy Spirit.
And my dad was standing right next to me, and he looked at me and he said, my dad's a Navy vet. And he said, if you've got something to say, you go up there and say it. You remember, they work for you.
It just empowered me. It was like God spoke directly through my physical father and was like, go. And so it was like a force.
I could not say no. I guess I could have, but I didn't. So I marched up there and I said, I didn't sign up to speak.
Get up on the microphone. And I said, we've got 300 people in this room, 12 people spoke, but not everybody's voice has been accounted for. So we're just going to vote on these issues.
These are parents and these are community taxpayers. You guys work for us. We're going to vote on them.
So you can see where everybody stands in this room. So I brought up the three issues, had them vote, and everybody in the room voted, no, we don't want this for our kids, to give them a broader picture. And I'm telling you, it was not my idea.
