The Orchard Towers is a spot in the city that is known to be a place where shady activities happen. No matter what it's known for, there's no denying the fact in this building there are food places that offer good quality treats too. Some restaurants offer Asian cuisines in the building that are good to try however, I was craving something simpler. At the basement level of the building are numerous stalls of Cai Fan otherwise known as "mixed veggie rice".
I already tried the Isle Eating House before so I want to try the competing stall as well. The issue was that I didn't know how to read the signboard where the name of the place was written.
In this stall, I got myself a plateful of white rice, sauteed cabbage, and two huge chunks of pig's trotter.
The guy who attended to my order was a bit impatient and didn't seem thrilled about having a customer. I guess he was too busy during the moment when I was ordering since he was in the process of cooking the new dishes that he needed to top up to the entire selection of dishes.
The pig's trotter is a tricky ingredient for any dish. If it's undercooked, the meat and the skin are going to be too tough and chewy. A good indication that the dish is of good quality is when the meat falls off the bone tender. And then the skin will have a similar texture to a jelly.
Actually, the fun part of this experience was the part where I ordered my food. By pointing to the dishes that will go onto my plate.
