She stopped at the red light, her skin clammy and cold. Madeline tried to dry her palms on the her jeans, but it didn't do much good.
She stole a glance in her rear view mirror. The street was empty, only the streetlights glistening off the wet black top shown behind her. A deep sigh of relief escaped her lips. Had she done it? Had she finally escaped?
The do not cross light was blinking across the street. In moments the light would change and she would be gone from this place forever. Whatever it took.
She rested her head on the steering, begging her nerves to be still. She had done it, she was safe now.
For a moment all was silent, then a metallic thump sounded on the window beside her. Madeline looked up and saw her car surrounded.
