Today is a wonderful and do you know what makes it even more wonderful? Having you here right now!
Most children , I have come to know, can be very manipulative. They tend to know your weak spots and exploit them. Yes, you read right, exploit! Children from an early stage, learn to get what they want by crying. So as they advance in age, they grow with that mentality of getting whatever they want by crying or by throwing tantrums.
Tantrums includes a child crying, throwing things around them, shouting at the top of their voice and not ready to listen to reason. When you see your child like this, at first, you may seem confused. You may not know how to handle the problem and most times you give in to their request or demand in order to soothe or placate them. In so doing, you have succeeded in salvaging the situation for the time being but creating a bigger problem for yourself, the child and the society at large. A child that grows to know that he or she can be given whatsoever they ask for from their parents will tend to ask for what the parents can not give to him or her someday.
The best way to tackle this situation:
Take your child to a more serene environment if you are out for an event. If you are at home, take your child to another room.
Your child would most likely not understand what you are trying while he or she is throwing a tantrum so allow him to cool off in a room without stuffs to damage or things that can cause harm to the child.
When the child has settled down, talk to him or her about the situation, telling the child while he or she could not get what they asked for.
Above all, show your children love and express it to them on a regular basis. Your child should feel loved and be loved.
These are simple ways to handle a tantrum.
Parents should learn to take responsibility in molding their children into responsible adults. Today, you see bad behaviours being attributed to bad parentage, lack of attention while growing up and so on, you most surely do not want your child to be counted among this number. It may be tough at first but you will be glad you took the right decision of training your children to be great in life.
