Southern women are fond of monograms. I was blessed with a monogram attachment by my mother on a recent visit. This attachment fits my Kenmore 158.1755 well enough to function. Here is an account of my testing. First step is to follow the instruction manual as to settings: presser foot pressure off, monogram foot on, feed dogs up, zigzag width set between 2 and 3 and stitch length set to 0. Next, I remove the plate that covers the bobbin area:
An arm under my monogram attachment will interact with the arm to the right in the photo to move the hooped fabric under the needle.
Next I click the monogram plate into place:
It is not a perfect fit, but if the mechanisms underneath engage, it's close enough.
Next I select the letter template to insert in the monogrammer and I clamp the scrap fabric in the hoop, following the manual for positioning. I then press the pedal and the attachment guides the fabric. All I supply is power, which I stop when the letter is complete. You can see the little red "J" made with red thread on top and black on the bottom. I used 2 colors to be able to see if any tension adjustments were needed before doing a monogram on special fabric. I am pleased to have another tool in my needlework toolbox. It will take some practice, but I think I will use this gadget regularly.
