I had a small amount of ETH on L1 for more than 6 months. It was about $2 that couldn't be moved. I wanted to explore crypto platforms and DeFi opportunities on Ethereum. However, the average gas fees of $30-40 made it impossible to access these platforms. Although many DeFi platforms existed on the chain, the high network fees prevented me from using my funds. This was very frustrating. I wondered how many others struggled with small holdings that couldn't be used.
When I learned about the Dencun upgrade, I began looking for ways to manage my $2 ETH. While researching, I found the Dencum upgrade had been added to Ethereum. It introduced "blobs" for cheaper Layer 2 storage, which caught my eye. Could Layer 2 networks like Arbitrum cut costs as expected? I was eager to explore if this unlocked access to DeFi services.
The Layer 2 solutions interest me. They offer cheaper storage and transactions. This could open new opportunities in decentralized finance. I wanted to understand the technical aspects better. Layer 2 scaling solutions may bring cost savings and improved accessibility. This potential benefit got me excited to learn more.
Transferring to Arbitrum was a game-changer for me. I was amazed to see that the transaction fees were just 3 cents, compared to the whopping $30+ fees on the Ethereum mainnet (L1). This was the first time I could transfer funds without it being eaten up by fees, allowing me to put my entire balance to use.
Transferring funds to Arbitrum was transformative. I was astonished to see transaction costs amounted to mere cents, compared to the whopping $30+ fees on Ethereum mainnet (L1). This was my first time transferring funds without it being eaten up by fees. A novel experience that liberated me to utilize my entire balance.
Discovering the potential of decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols on Arbitrum thrilled me. I could supply a modest $2 to Ribbon Finance and start earning yield. An exciting new experience, earning yield on such a small amount was impossible on the mainnet due to high fees. Even with this tiny amount, I gained value. A whole new world of opportunities opened up in Ethereum's low-fee ecosystem. Interacting with DeFi protocols without worrying about fees was incredible.
The Dencun enabled scaling technology is amazing. It lets everyday people, like me, profitably use Decentralized Finance (DeFi) on Ethereum with as little as $2. This innovative feature demonstrates blockchain's true mainstream potential. No longer will Ethereum DeFi be restricted to wealthy investors.
My experience with this tech fills me with optimism. As scaling costs decrease further through upgrades, I believe Ethereum will go mainstream, transforming finance positively. With small investment barriers removed, anyone can now explore DeFi on Ethereum and leverage its pioneering capabilities.
The ability to scale with Dencun is truly remarkable. It opens up many chances for people who were left out before because of high fees.
By sharing my experience, I hope you understand the struggles small holders faced. You also understand the potential that opened up through scaling solutions like the Dencum upgrade. Moving forward, I'm excited to see projects keep improving Layer 2 networks to lower costs even more. As improvements happen in both Layer 1 and Layer 2 scaling, the whole Ethereum ecosystem gets closer to mainstream adoption. My own experience has made me confident. If fee reductions keep happening, blockchain technology will finally become mainstream in a big way.
Technologies that could actually enhance our financial processes should be accessible by everyone, and not only a favored group. Advancements such as Dencum make this aspiration achievable.
