Written using @mariannewest's prompt

"Can we go inside?" she says, shivering.

I shake my head.

"Not yet," I say. "There is more to see." I point up into the sky. The lights swirl above our heads and the whooshing sound is getting louder.

"I don't like it," she says. "And I'm cold."

"What is there to dislike?" I pull my coat off and wrap it around her shoulders. "They are making contact at last."

She zips my jacket up and sticks her bottom lip out. She looks like a sulking toddler when she does this and it makes me love her more.

"What do you think they want?"

"To make contact," I say, my tone of voice sounds annoyed even to my ears.

"Yes," she says. "But what do they want afterwards. Do you think they will want to destroy us?"

I shake my head.

"No. I think they want to understand us."

She laughs, and the sound is humourless.

"I think if they get to know us, they will surely want to destroy us. The human race is not particularly nice."

She has a point, I think.
