Llegó a nuestra casa hace cinco meses.

Y siempre me decía:

Me mira fijo.

Directamente.

Today I discovered this community dedicated entirely to cats, and I thought that if there's one place on Hive where Serafina deserves to make her official debut, it's here.

This is Serafina.

She came to our home five months ago.

Actually, she was a gift for my daughter Naholy, and Naholy brought her home when she was just about 40 days old. She was tiny—a little bundle that could fit practically anywhere.

And at first, I was scared.

We already have Alma, my dog, living at home, and my biggest worry was that she might hurt her.

So we went through the whole process very carefully.

We’d bring Serafina closer, pet Alma, show affection to both of them, and try to help Alma understand that this little thing that had just appeared was also part of the family.
And it worked.

Alma accepted her.

But what I didn’t know was that, as Serafina settled into our home, she was also slowly making her way into my heart.
And I ended up completely in love with her.

I always say that Serafina decided to come.

Argentina gave me a mother figure named Marta; in other posts, I’ve already told you about her and how important she was to me.

Marta loved cats.
I mean, she really loved them.
And she’d always tell me:
“You have to have cats.”
And I always had an answer.
“Yeah, Marta, but it’s a lot of work.”
“Cats don’t like you.”
“Why would a cat want me?”
I always came up with some excuse.

So, when Serafina arrived home, I just smiled and thought:
“Oh, Marta… what a peculiar way you have of forcing me to get a cat.”

And honestly, I want to believe that she sent it.
Because Serafina really changed my life.

I can't put into words how I feel when I hold her in my arms.

She snuggles up to me as if she were a baby.
She settles in.
She lets herself go.
She stays.

And I sense in her a vulnerability, a trust, and a sense of refuge that move me deeply.

There are times when we can stay like this for ten, fifteen, or twenty minutes.

She plays in my arms, moving around, scurrying about a little, but never letting go of me.

As if my arms were her safe place.

And there’s something that completely melts my heart: when she looks at me.
She stares right at me.

Straight into my eyes.

And I feel a connection I can’t quite describe.

I don’t know exactly what that look means from a cat’s perspective.
I just know what happens to me when it happens.

I feel love.
Joy.
Calm.
And immense gratitude for having her close by.
I’m in love with that cat—I’ll say it just like that, without any shame.

I’m in love with the way she seeks me out, with her personality, her tenderness, and even that feline way she has of being completely independent while, at the same time, deciding when she wants to be with me.
Serafina has also become a teacher.

Without saying a single word, she speaks to me of serenity.
Of tranquility.
Of trust.
Of security.
Of knowing when to approach and when to step back.
Of resting.
Of observing.
Of living in the moment.

Now I understand why Marta insisted so much; I’m sure she knew how healing a cat’s love is, and she knew I needed to experience this kind of love.

So, if you’re hesitating about whether or not to welcome a cat that comes into your life, I can only speak from my own experience:
if a cat comes to your door, open it, welcome her, and enjoy her.

Because she doesn’t just come to live with you—she comes to change your life.

Today, I feel deeply fortunate that Serafina is part of my life.

And I have no doubt that, in some way, Marta had something to do with her arrival, because Serafina is undoubtedly the most wonderful surprise that has come into my life this year.

A huge hug.
Hope
