Food is necessary for survival, it's fascinating how different places across the world have their unique dishes. Some are sweet, some are not, Some are pleasant to behold, and some are terrifying, don't laugh. Sometimes one has to practice for a while before he/she gets acquainted with some but in the end, it serves the same purpose, which is to help in growth and development.
In Africa, and Nigeria to be specific, we have different, tribes with different cultures, each with their peculiar dishes, I bet you, you would not be able to resist them when you come across one. I must confess Our dishes are great. Hehe, don't frown if you are not a Nigerian, I know yours are great too.
One thing we must understand is, that no dish is superior to the other, the same way your dish is captivating to you, is the same way that of others is to them. What is native to you will always be the best before your eyes.
In the case of choosing between African dishes and continental dishes, I would go for my local dish, which is an African dish. My dish is peculiar to me, I have been feasting on them for a long, and my body system is even acquainted with it already. One of the things I love so much about our local dishes is the fact that they are natural. Even though they contain few artificial additives like maggi and salt most of the ingredients are natural and often times leaves. We all know how nutritious leaves are.
Continental dishes are amazing, in terms of flavor, beauty, name it, they are excellent, but my problem with most of them is they contain a lot of chemicals, some in the name of preservatives, some to add flavor, and so on. These things are good they make their food taste better, in fact, I would love to call them advanced foods but when they accumulate so much in our bodies they begin to affect our health.
One of the local dishes I am so familiar with is Tuwo, it can be prepared either with corn flour or rice, that is to say, there are different kinds of Tuwo. I really don't know how to prepare it but it is prepared separately and eaten with soup. One of the common native soups here is Nbadere, made with okra leaves with pounded groundnut. I love that soup so much. When It is served you will see those leaves green, with garden egg calling unto you. It's the best soup I have eaten so far. Apart from Maggi and salt, every other thing Is local. Instead of adding artificial potash, they use ash water. It serves the same purpose as potash.
Our forefathers ate things like these and they lived long without a trace of any disease caused by food, those days there was nothing like salt, Maggie cube and the rest, food was natural and full of nutrients but today what we eat are the things killing us. Even in my next life if provision can be made for African dishes I would still go for them.
But don't get it twisted, foreign foods are nice too, I don't joke with spaghetti, Noodles, cornflakes, and others, they are easy to prepare. One of the downsides of African dishes is they take a long time to be prepared and you know it's not every day that time would be on our side.
