Picture of Afang Plant
There are different food in the world and different culture, villages, tradition have their own kind of food. And people love tasting different kind of food. I remember trying Banga soup some years ago at Delta state and I fell in love with it. It was so delicious. One day I decided to try it with starch. Hahahahah let me laugh because how I managed to struggle before swallowing starch still remains a mistery to me till date. The thing was so soft and draw to the extent that it was struggling with my tongue before I could swallow it. I swallowed about three balls and I hands off.
Back in Edo state , the appearance of black soup was not inviting at all, but my friend who was from there persuaded me to have a taste that I will like it, and after enough convincing I had to give it a try. Well it was nice , it tasted good than the appearance 🤣.
But in all these non of the soup could be compared to Afang soup. This soup is an international delicacy but originated from Akwa Ibom and one of the best soup in Akwa Ibom. No event is complete in Akwa ibom without the soup. It's one soup that I can eat even for a week without getting tired , it has a second hand value 🤣, unlike other soup. Anyhow you cook the soup I will eat it.
But to enjoy it more, get big periwinkle, stuck fish, meat, and other orishi-rishi use it to cook the soup and after eating it your life will never remain the same. The soup go well with hot fufu. Every compound in the state knows the soup and they even grow the afang , some for commercial purposes and some for home use.
I got to like the soup because back then, it was our weekend food. My mum will always prepare the soup every Sunday. A Sunday without the soup is just like a weekday. So it was one of the soup that really gave us joy back then till today.
If you have never had a taste before , please try and do so, then bring back the testimony.
