Back in High school I was generally in a much better position financially than a good number of my friends. This was, well as a result of my parents being solid middle class at the time and not really having a flair for opulence.

Unfortunately a couple of bad financial decisions and unforeseen circumstances brought them down the ladder and by then I was already on my way to being independent of their resources, even though I certainly felt the sharp contrast in fortunes between both periods.

When you have an abundance of financial resources, there is almost a god-like feeling that permeates such a personality. It is the feeling of invisibility that money can buy just about anything, and in most instances that feeling tends to hold sway. Money certainly either buys most desires outright or puts us in prime position to acquire them.

Unfortunately we can somehow forget that our resources are limited and if not properly managed and replaced, will be exhausted eventually. Having tasted a bit of both Worlds, I can certainly say it is a terrible experience for one to experience a bit of the good life and suddenly lose it all. It is a lot better the other way round if at all.

Many of us have realized this too, and no wonder everyone is so obsessed with financial success these days. We chase, and keep chasing whatever the cost. Some of us put in huge sacrifices just for the possibility of a more secure future. You can't but understand the paranoia that comes with being poor.

Being unable to meet ones financial needs long term is as much a mental attack as it is a physical one. That feeling of vulnerability, which often props some un-dignifying actions just to make ends meet is not one many want to have to contend with for a lifetime. Yet when it (money) does come, there has to be an appreciation for how fast it can go if the wrong decisions are taken. One of such is trying to keep up with appearances.

Where Does Your Money Go?

I have been spending a lot on other people's desires lately, and to an extent neglecting my own. Given, there are some financial burdens I am all too happy to bear such as spending on family needs, but all too often I always ask myself 'how' when I meditate on my expenses periodically.

I always wondered how really rich folks could suddenly go broke but now I have a better appreciation. I think we really all need to take a stance on money - what it means to us, how we want to live our lives around it, and of course who and what we should be spending it on. I have seen folks live happily on little, and also those who couldn't do much with abundance.

Conclusion

Am a bit all over the place on this one, I know. Partly because am paranoid about being poor and also partly because I couldn't decide on what to write on. If you did read though, how do you regard money?
