I have never been a big fan of medications. I rarely fall sick but when I do, find it much easier to simply isolate myself and let my immune system fight back. That's not to say that I have some sort of opposition to drugs though, but I simply see it as a last resorts sort of thing.
Reading an article by Tarazkp sharing his concerns over the concerns over the seemingly innocuous chemicalization of our society is what prompted this write up. It is true that these days from adults to even little children we are seeing an uptake in the usage of medication.
The more concerning part is that I use the term 'medication' to mean something different to taking drugs. A century or so ago, there were drugs created that literally saved millions if not billions of life in one go. I don't think we appreciate enough how much medicine has evolved to fight common diseases of the middle ages.
Those outstanding breakthroughs seem to have hit a plateau. We have more or less past the era of curing and preventing to the era of managing. Drugs are now administered to manage symptoms over a sustained period of time rather than a lasting cure.
I wonder if it has something to do with the business enterprise that we've created out of it. No doubt the pharmaceutical industry remains one of the most profitable in the World. Well, am sure that has nothing to do with it.
I merely share concerns about the unknown effects of living in a medicated World. Time will tell.
