One of the questions I ask myself almost every day when I go about my day is what exactly am I here for? At first I thought it’s just figuring out what my talent is. But later I realized that is just part of it. The main thing is the purpose for which that talent was given and what you are able to realize with it.

If it were to be just talent then it wouldn’t make much difference because for every talent you can think of there are also a million people out there who have the same talent, so that would make them indifferent from each other. I think one of the major misconceptions most people have about life is to come out first place, that’s why most of us view life as a thing of competition.

But the thing is a numerous as we are on the earth we all have individual purposes which are different from each other. Someone may be called to be a teacher. Now obviously that person isn’t the first teacher to walk the face of the earth. But in as much as there are several other teachers, there is still something about that teacher that is expected for him or her to do that should be different from other teachers.

So if it is for talent, I’ve got that figured out already since I was a kid, at around 13 years. Nothing gives me joy than music. And nothing gives me a greater sense of fulfilment than creating music. It’s been a passion for me. I’ve had someone who newly became a roommate with me and my friends at the hostel back in school. Just by looking at me he could already tell that I am a music person. I was stunned. This guy didn’t know me from anywhere. Just few days into joining us in our room and he was already able to detect correctly that aspect of me like we’ve known for long.

When it comes to talent I am mistaken in that area. Now coming to purpose, that’s a different thing. Thought I’m not a hundred percent sure on what the actual purpose of the talent is, but I know it goes beyond recording songs in the studio, shooting music videos, going on tours, going on interviews, receiving awards, and so on.

But one thing I am completely sure of is that I was meant to use it as a substance to make a difference. While growing up I use to wish to be like certain people I look up to. But now I know better. Those are nothing more than just sources of inspiration. Being like them just makes you a second of them. A second Michael Jackson, a second Will Smith, a second Serena Williams, and so on. I don’t think anybody was given the purpose to be the second of anyone. We were all created to be the first.

And whatever is the purpose of that gift I know that is should not just be for my own benefit, but for the benefit of people around me and the world at large. If there’s one thing I have come to understand about purpose is that it is more about people around you and less about you.

Fulfilling purpose is not an all pleasing journey. I studied the people who fulfilled purpose and I noticed that the results of their creation is more of benefit to people than it is to them. Even the ones that are no longer with us today, we are still benefiting from their creative works. These men and women had people in mind when putting their talents to good use.

So when it comes to purpose, I know am here to make a difference and to contribute to mankind by making the life of people around me better in the little way that I can.
