I actually watched this movie a couple of years back. Then recently something brought me back to the movie that made me rewatch it. It’s just one of those films you have to watch more than once before you digest it.
Meet Dave is a science comedy movie about a group of miniature aliens who landed on earth in their spaceship that is shaped like a human being. They are in search of a missing orb that is apparently connected to saving their planet Neil. While on the mission of retrieving the orb, the aliens encounter a new problem as their captain who is played by Eddie Murphy becomes distracted by a woman by the name Elizabeth Banks. This gradually leads to chaos as his direct second in command is worried that this may sabotage their mission and as a result forms a rebellion against their Captain. If you’re looking for something that would set you in the mood for laughter then this movie fits into that spot.
Eddie Murphy ability to multi act was quite impressive because he played both the role of the captain of the ship and also the “ship” itself which had him moving and behaving like a robot in a sort of way. Although some of the gestures were a little bit exaggerated but it was all for the purpose of the laughs.
Kevin Hart also starred in the movie as one of the crew members though, but he really didn’t do anything major as such as far as the movie went. The movie did take a twist towards the end because mission for arriving on the earth which the audience were all looking forward to see how it will turn out did not actually go accomplished. But somehow it ended just right with the aliens leaving in one piece and also leaving the humans unhurt.
First thought that might pop into most people’s head when aliens step into the scene is that it is an alien invasion! But that was far from it. Although it almost did seem that way when the Captain’s second in command try to take over, but it was resolved.
The movie was really worth the watch in my opinion. It is the kind of movie you can watch with family and really enjoy it both as kids and parents. I give the movie 3.5 stars out of 5.
