Sometimes i think everyone some time in my life, we have all asked our selves the question and that is what we are supposed to do with our lives, and whether there is something specific we are meant to achieve before our time here is over. I think these are questions most of us have asked ourselves at one point or another, especially when we look around and see people who seem to have everything figured out. Some people discover their talents early in life, others spend years trying different things before finding something they are good at, but as they always say a moving person will one day meet his luck.
When we talk about purpose, I think people sometimes make it sound like there is one big thing you must discover before your life can begin to make sense. You have to find your passion, become successful or leave a legacy that people will remember and while I agree that having direction in life is important, I sometimes wonder whether we put too much pressure on ourselves by constantly trying to figure everything out. It is almost as though living an ordinary life is not enough anymore.
Seeing as I am a religious person, my understanding of purpose begins with my faith. As a Muslim, I believe my ultimate purpose is to worship . That is the foundation upon which everything else in my life should be built but I also believe that life is meant to be lived. We are here to work, experience different things, build relationships and make the most of the opportunities available to us. Worship does not mean that every other aspect of life becomes meaningless. Rather, my faith gives those other aspects meaning and direction. The way I treat people, the work I do, the responsibilities I fulfil, and the choices I make can all become part of how I live out my purpose.
Funny enough, I think this is where the idea of identifying your talent becomes interesting. We all have different abilities, interests, and things that come naturally to us, that is basically what i believe talent to be, your ability to quickly or more naturally to understand or adapt to a particular thing. Some people are good at communicating, others are gifted with numbers, some can build things with their hands, while others have the patience to teach, listen, or solve problems that leave everyone else confused. Sometimes, these abilities are obvious from childhood. Other times, you might not even recognise your own talent until circumstances force you to use it.
I have also come to realise that being talented at something does not necessarily mean that it is your purpose, at least not in the way people sometimes present the idea. You could be an excellent singer without wanting to become a professional musician and also this chain of thought got me real thinking whenever I consider the future. There are so many things I would like to accomplish, and I have ambitions that go beyond simply making a living and getting through each day but I also understand that some things in life might not come to pass and i am okay living a simple life and dying. Another thing before i forget is that i think that purpose does not always have to be tied to a career or a talent that earns you money. We live in a world where people are constantly encouraged to monetise their abilities, turn their hobbies into businesses, and make every interest productive. There is nothing wrong with that, of course, but I do not think everything we are good at has to become a source of income, but thats the irony of life ive read countless stories of people that started things just because they wanted to and they were not even thinking of money at the time but the passion they fueled it with, eventually became something that made them so much money!!
After all is said and done, at the end of the day, I do not think we need to have every detail of our lives figured out before we can start living meaningfully. We can know what we ultimately live for while still discovering the many ways we can express that purpose.
