I went for a short walk to see the Hermit's Cave or The Hermitage near the village of Dale Abbey, UK.
The cave was dug out of sandstone by Cornelius, a 12th century baker from Derby who had a vision of the Virgin Mary and was called to worship God in Deepdale, as the area was formerly known. The cave is up a few steep steps but not too difficult.
Cornelius lived in the cave for 20 years until the landowner, a Knight named Ralph Fitz Geremund tried to evict him from his land, but after hearing his story let him stay.
Lots of stone carvings new and old inside the cave.
It is an enjoyable visit and thankfully the rain stayed away until I got home.
